Nevermind! I tested it again on WindowMaker today and appearantly miniaturizing no longer for it. The miniwindow is in fact created, I can see when it happens, but then it immediately disappears. Anyway, like I said before though, this new way of miniaturizing plays nice with all the other WMs I've tested.

OK, I just had a chance to reinstall GNUstep and was able to test this. It works very well, but it doesn't work WindowMaker. Whenever under WM, if you try to minimize when GSAppOwnsMiniwindow is set to YES, the miniwindow is created, but sent behind WindowMaker's desktop (which means you can't see it). However, it works perfectly with all other window managers that I've tried include Etoile's Azalea, XFCE, Metacity, etc, as well as with no window manager (but this is hard since there's lots of focus problems).

Not sure if you still want to keep it because of this shortcoming, but if you do, it works perfectly. Like I said, for it to work in WindowMaker GSAppOwnsMiniwindow must be set to NO.

I added a patch by Stefan Bidigaray <stefanbidi@gmail.com> to SVN. He claims that this resolves the problem, which I was not able to repoduce. Most likely it is caused by a special window manager or when there is no window manager at all, as in your case.

This problem is also present in core-20050214. In core-20050214 it is possible to double-click a miniwindow to unminiaturize a window (although the window has been painted on the screen full size at all time (see original note)), but, when unminiaturized, the miniwindow is still on the screen, clickable and draggable.

When GSAppOwnsMiniwindow == YES and GSX11HandlesWindowDecorations == NO, clicking on the miniaturize button of a GNUstep-decorated window removes focus from that window and creates a miniwindow at the bottom of the screen. However, the main window is still drawn on the screen, but it is impossible to cause it to receive focus and it will not unminiaturize when the miniwindow is clicked. This was tested with GNUstep-back 0.9.4 and GNUstep-gui 0.9.4. There was no window manager running during the test.
