Parameter evaluation has now changed so that the variable value is bound to start with.

In the following construct

<xsl:variable name="foo">
<xsl:value-of select="position()"/>
</xsl:variable>

the value of position() is evaluated each time $foo is evaluated. This behaviour is incorrect. position() should be evaluated only once when the variable is defined.

Note that if you use the following construct instead, behaviour is correct:

<xsl:variable name="foo" select="position()"/>
