OK, I see you have replaced the call to pdf2dsc with a very long gs command. pdf2dsc (which does the same as your long command) is still supported by Ghostscript. The bug was that the command was "pdf2dsc %pdf %dsc" in stead of "pdf2dsc %s %s" which works nicely. Maybe you should consider continuing to use pdf2dsc? (And why not use pdf2ps which is part of Ghostscript.) I know, these are minor issues.

The GV resources file is now installed (and accessed by gv) on
pkglibdir with all the other resource files.

This avoid collides with GNU/Linux gv distributions.

pdflatex small2e; gv small2e.pdf displays the pdf, but also shows an error in the usual popup window:

pdf2dsc 0x80bbef0df 134995800sc
failed.

This happens with every pdf I have tried (with different numbers). I took the defaults for all configure/X options.
pdf2dsc is installed.
