I cannot test with debian. Is this still reproducable?
Can you get a coredump from screen?
'ulimit -c unlimited' may help.

got the same problem with fedora core 3 and the latest Suse. if i start screen first without options and then start the command inside screen it works. if i pass the command as additional parameter to screen, screen terminates at certain points reproducibly.

could it be that screen gets confused if a process under linux 2.6.x starts a new thread?

When starting a screen with parameters -d -m on kernel 2.6.x it terminates for no reason after a short while. This behaviour was observed on a Debian testing as well as a Debian unstable system with kernels 2.6.6 - 2.6.8.
