I have changed the license to the GPLv3, you can find the new tarball here:

I have left Makefile.am and configure.ac in the PD.

Hi Joan - It's true that the FSF recommends using CC0, but, as you say, simple public domain is not considered a problem, so there's no reason not to go ahead with the evaluation/approval as it stands.

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

I've seen you've licensed your project as public domain. That is not a problem, but in general, the public domain refers to those projects whose copyright has expired. If you want to release your project as public domain, we encourage you to use a formal way to do so. For example, you could use the CC0 license.
