Hmm true, I can see that. I figured that, like a web browser, as long as the client application was free software and the API well-defined that might not be a problem.

Still, I do see your point and thank you for the time you spent reviewing this.

Then your package doesn't meet Savannah hosting requirements: it has a nonfree dependency.

I don't know how it works internally. It has a well-documented API for managing it tasks and, as far as I can tell, delegates the actual downloading to one of its backends – in the case of bittorrent that would the "transmission" daemon.

Unfortunately while the API is public, DownloadStation itself is not free software.

How does DownloadStation work? Who are its providers?

Of course: Synology is a manufacturer of networked storage appliances. These devices can run a service called DownloadStation which is essentially a download manager that downloads remote data through various protocols (such as bittorrent) directly to the network storage.

Interaction with that service (i.e. adding and removing download tasks) typically happens through a web interface. Synodl allows its user to skip the web interface and instead manage their download tasks directly from the command line.

Could you elaborate what DownloadStation and Synology NAS devices are?
