NoiseChisel's first operation after applying the quantile threshold is to erode those pixels above the threshold.

For large and diffuse objects this can be no problem and the eroded pixels are later returned. However for small and sharp objects the erosions can completely carve it out.

I am now working on a solution to this problem and my initial tests were promising. Essentially we can disable the erosion of pixels that are too bright. This will allow those pixels to remain and thus we won't loose such sharp small objects in the image.
