Hi,

are you still planning to use Savannah for your project? If not, please tell us--this will make us gain some time to review other projects.

Best regards.

Hi,

you are right. I was too sloppy reading your submission. I'm sorry that I made these false assumptions. It was never my intention to anger you. I hope you are still willing to take use of Savannah, despite this one error of mine.

This aside, I'm now finished looking over the tarball. I found that not all files contain copyright and license headers. All nontrivial files longer than 10 lines are copyrightable and need these headers. The files which are missing these are configure.ac and Makefile.in in autoconf/, all .txt and .sl files, !readme.1st, as well as getfd.c, j2s.h, keys.h, main_k.c and Makefile.in in src/. You can just use the same headers as found in the source files which contain one, given that you adjust the copyright of course.

If you want more information on license and copyright headers, I recommend http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html and http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html

Some people prefer to use a different license for their documentation, e.g. GNU LGPL or a permissive license. However, this is only a thought I want to pass to you. I'm not pursuing you to change anything.

Please attach an updated tarball to this tracker once you are done. Your project should then be accepted and activated.

Best regards.

Hello Aljoscha,

you suspect that sue may target non-free operating systems? Please read again my submission: it only runs in the GNU/Linux text console. It does not even run under X11.

When I say Windows manners I mean non-Unix manners, e.g. examples instead of manpages; a cornucopia of keys instead of the crippled choice available in emacs and vim and practically all text console editors; full use of ressources instead of reduction to the least common denominator for the sake of portability.

All of which is to say, I mean civilisation and not Unix. And yes, you touched a nerve.

Regards

frank

Hi,

thanks for submitting your project to Savannah! Before I can start evaluating your project, I need some more information.

According to our hosting requirements[1] a project has to target primarly a free operating system. The project has to bring the same functionality on a free OS as it does on a non-free one. Since you are referring to "Windows manners" and "conventions" I suspect that the project might not fulfil these requirements.

If I'm wrong please clarify me and I will start evaluating the project right away.

Best regards.

Registration Details

  • Name: GNU/Linux text mode single user editor
  • System Name:  sue
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later (none)

Description:

This is a GNU/Linux text console editor, where text console means text in full screen and not a graphic terminal. You may have heard of jed, a well known editor with Unix manners. Sue is based on jed but it has Windows manners. It is written in C, it is stable, it is powerful, it has a macro language, it is highly configurable, it has pulldown menus, it has colour, it has a file manager (both listings and tree view).

Windows conventions allow you to use the editor right away after
installation without wondering how this or that has to be done.
Extended keys are available by default, which means Ctrl-Home is not Home, ctrl-right takes to the next word and block selection is with shifted arrows. When in doubt, there is help with concrete examples.

Other Software Required:

SLang, libc
