Hi Assaf

Due to several changes in my life, FreeHorse is a permanently delayed project by now. If I ever have time, I'll register it again.

Thank you

Ricard

Hello,

I'm reviewing old tasks in Savannah.
Are you still interested in the submission of Free Horse?

If within two weeks I still do not get a reply, I will close this submission request.
You will still be able to register the project again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Regards,
 -Assaf

Hi Ricard,

Don't worry, I will just mark the task as "postponed" and you tell us when it's ready. Thanks for your help!

Alex.

Well, I had no time to write a Final Year Project from scratch and I finally delivered a partially done project I had. FreeHorse is now actually frozen, no code written yet. I pretend to do so as soon as I can, but professional issues demand all of my time these days

If there is a possibility to keep this project open I'll be grateful. Keeping this open reminds me I have this project pending, and it's a project I really want to do. But I'll understand if you are in need for space at Savannah and the project has to be closed.

Thanks!

Hi,

There are some issues pending from the project registration
process. Is the project in Savannah ready for review?

Thanks!

Hi Mario
Yes, I need Savannah services now, even without source code (that I hope it will be submitted soon), and I agree with the conditions you posted. I'll try explain you why:

I'm a student of the "Master de Programari Lliure" that is, Free Software Master, at "Universitat Oberta de Catalunya" (http://www.uoc.edu/web/cat/index.html) an on-line University in Catalonia, Spain. I'm doing the Final Year Project and I've chosen the subject "Desenvolupament d'aplicacions de Programari Lliure", that is, "Free Software application development".

The main goal of this subject is to be able to create a Free Software project and build a community around it. I mean, the project itself is not so important as long as it doesn't need to be fully completed or even functional (of course, the more completed, the higher evaluation I'll get) but to create this community around the project, understand the use of project hosting services, mailing lists, version control, error management and every tool involved in Free Software development.

The main problem here is that time matters, as I must show my tutor that the project is properly hosted and community is created before November 15, even though there are no people but me in these early stages.

I have not submitted any sources because there are no sources yet, I must develop "something" between November 15 and December 31.

So, if you consider this project does not fit Savannah's requirements, I beg you tell me so as soon as you can (hope that won't be the case, anyway).

I know there are many project hosting webs around but I've chosen Savannah because it belongs to GNU and FSF, and is my intention to keep the project alive after the Master is finished.

Thanks for your time and comprehension, and sorry for my bad english.

Ricard

Hi.

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in GNU Savannah.
You can reach the rest Savannah hackers (Staff) in this list:
http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/savannah-hackers-public.
Hi,

Based solely on the description given I think the projects meets the
Savannah requirements, except that we cannot review your source code
yet.

Before approval, we prefer to see your source code, so we can check it
for legal issues (even non-functional code is OK). Among other checks,
we will check that the source files contain appropriate copyright
notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every
copyrightable file. Our review helps catch potential legal issues
early.

If you need Savannah right now, please explain to us why; otherwise,
please resubmit the project when you have source code.

If we approve your project without source code, we will review the
code in the near future (or better, at your request). If then the
source code does not meet our requirements (for example, non-free
dependencies), we will then discuss the issue and possibly remove the
project from Savannah.

Do you need the Savannah services now, and if yes do you agree with
the above conditions?

Regards.

Registration Details

  • Name: Free Horse
  • System Name:  freehorse
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

Web based, python programmed, database driven application focused on riding club or stud management. Not an ERP, not a business-oriented application (at least on these early stages) but focused on individual management for horse's and staff's needs: feeding, cleaning, veterinarian treatments, training timetables for horses and task management for staff.
This is an academic exercise for my Final Year Project, but I'd like to keep it alive after that. Because of it's academic nature, I have chosen the platform and programming languages that I want to experiment with. I'm interested in learning RAD tools for web based applications, javascript, database interaction, and Python programming language, so I have chosen web2py framework, PostgreSQL database, javascript-jQuery, and Python language.

Other Software Required:

web2py GPLv2 http://www.web2py.com/examples/default/download
Python 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, or 2.7 PSF http://docs.python.org/license.html
PostgreSQL PostgreSQL License http://www.postgresql.org/about/licence
jQuery MIT GPLv2 http://jquery.org/license
