Thanks!  I have added the licencing information to my local copy of README and will check it in with the first lot of changes.

File readme is nontrivial, it should contain the licencing information
too but all else is ok so I approve the project but please fix this
issue soon.

I suppose the boss also autorized the use of any later version of the
GPL, if not, please ask him to do so.

The url for the proyect is http://savannah.gnu.org/p/muesli, thanks
you very much by releasing free software, enjoy mantaining it at
savannah.

(For the logs, you sendme the updated tarball yesterday).

I now have the definite go-ahead from my boss to put Muesli under GPL3 on Savannah.

Please pointme to the URL of the updated tarball.

For next times, you may use the "split" command (In a GNU system) for
split the tarball in 2 or more chunks, and then upload each
individually, or you can send the tarball to me
(mariocastelancastro@gmail.com).

Have your employer or the Limerwick university alredy confirmed this
software is going to be licenced under the GNU GPL 3?, if not, please
ask him to do so.

In most jobs the programmer is not autorized to licence the work as he
want but is licenced as the boss want, and that is why we need his
confirmation.

I've uploaded the tarball of the project files, getting the size within the upload limit by omitting those that are supplied by FSF or generated from software supplied by FSF.

I've also inspected the license used in the source code of SIOD (one of the libraries that muesli will detect and link) and it is very similar, although not identical, to the MIT/X11 license.

The funding body's open access requirements are documented on http://www.sfi.ie/uploads/documents/upload/SFI_OA_policy_2009_v3.pdf

I will forward confirmation from my boss ASAP.

I've tried to upload the updated tarball, but it is over the size limit mentioned next to the upload boxes (which is why I didn't try it but sent individual files before).  The system does indeed appear to have rejected the upload.  (The project itself isn't that large, but build system files such as configure, texinfo.tex and aclocal.m4 bring the size up a lot.)  I'll make a tarball containing just the files I actually wrote, as distinct from the distribution tarball -- I hope that will be suitable, as the other files are part of the GNU build tools or are generated by them.

Yes, we do want the whole project hosted here, of course!

I am as yet the sole developer and my employment contract with the University assigns the copyright to them.  The funding body requires public release of code unless there are other arrangements; I'm waiting to hear back from my boss as to whether further specific clearance is needed but my understanding is that they are not in a position to refuse, given that there is no commercial co-sponsor.

You was supposed to upload the whole, updated tarball.

You want the whole project is going to be hosted here, true?, then we
want to review the whole tarball, of course.

Have all you the developers of the project give the copyright of the
whole code to the Limerwick univesity, and the administration have
agreed to release it under the GNU GPL 3 or later?.

If not, there may be legal problems to you and to who make an derivate
work of this software.

Please read http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/university.html.

I've corrected those files (I've uploaded some of the changed ones, there are a few more headers in src/ that I can upload if you want to check).

Muesli is a spin-off of two officially supported projects, `Grammatical Evolution' and `Machine-code Grammatical Evolution', which are developed by the Biocomputing and Developmental Systems (BDS) Group in the Computer Science and Information Systems Department at the University of Limerick, Ireland, with funding from Science Foundation Ireland.  So it's not an official project in its own right; it was originally part of a larger project, then I (a member of staff) realized it could be useful outside the original project, and split it out into its own source tree, and got my manager / lead researcher's permission to find a hosting space for it outside the university.

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Please add Licence and Copyright information to all your non trivial
files, that include autoconf/automake input (configure.ac,
makefiles.am), C headers (including muesli-tcc.h) and any other file
more than 10 lines long.

Is the University of Limerick administration formally developing and
supporting this project or it is a group of students from that
university?.

Registration Details

  • Name: muesli
  • System Name:  muesli
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

Multiple Utility, Evaluation and Scripting Language Interface

A C library presenting applications with a uniform interface to several (hopefully, many) scripting languages, so that the choice of scripting language is a run-time choice made by the user, rather than a design-time choice made by the application authors.  It provides a call to get a language interface structure by name, and members of that structure evaluate strings, load files, etc, according to common function types.  It also provides scripting languages with consistent access to an application-provided parameter setting function intended for compatibility with the GNU C library's getopt.

The underlying language implementations are all non-proprietary, typically GPL'ed.

An autoconf-generated configure script determines which languages to build into the library.

The languages currently supported to some extent are listed in the `Dependencies' section of this form.

Other Software Required:

Currently supported:
SIOD (unspecified) http://www.cs.indiana.edu/scheme-repository/imp/siod.html
Lua (MIT) http://www.lua.org/
Tcl (`BSD-style') http://www.tcl.tk/doc/
tcc (LGPL) http://bellard.org/tcc/
Perl (GPL/Artistic) http://www.perl.com/
Python (Python) http://www.python.org/
exec of any program {separate process, not API}
pipe to/from any program {separate process, not API}

and support is planned for
GUILE (LGPL) http://www.gnu.org/software/guile/
SWI Prolog (LPGL) http://www.swi-prolog.org/
Ruby (GPL) http://www.ruby-lang.org/
Octave (GPL) http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/
UCB logo (GPL) http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/~bh/logo.html
JavaScript (Mozilla/GPL/LPGL) http://www.mozilla.org/js/spidermonkey/
S-lang (GPL) http://www.s-lang.org/
R (GPL) http://www.r-project.org/

Other Comments:

I have tried to contact the author of SIOD to clarify the license but he has never replied.  However, GUILE is apparently a descendant of SIOD and so he is presumably amenable to it being included in GPL'ed projects, and on this basis I have ticked the box `My dependencies are compatible with my project license'.

There are no `media files' (if that means bitmaps etc).
