Hello,

Alright, I've completed a lot of work.  Here is the new tarball:

http://github.com/gjkerns/IPSUR/tarball/master

I've deleted everything except that which is absolutely necessary.  I added copyright notices and licensing to everything that remains.

I rewrote the project with a Makefile such that I'm distributing the /program/ under the GNU-GPL instead of the /document/ under the GNU-FDL.  The user will generate his/her own copy of the document and I will distribute /mine/ under the GNU-FDL.  In this way, I don't need to worry about images or much of anything else.  There were a couple of LaTeX files in /include which I am distributing under the GNU-FDL.

I notice in your earlier message that you mentioned the GNU-GPL version 2;  I would like to distribute my work under version 3 if I can.  Is that possible?

I hope this helps expedite my submission.

Jay

Thanks again, and please let me apologize for wasting your time.  Yes, of course, I will make all of those changes and when they are done will send a new tarball.

One (1) is already finished: the complete text of the GNU-FDL version 1.3 is already in IPSUR.org (and IPSUR.html), Appendix B.  It appears that it isn't currently in the exported PDF - I'll fix that.

You'll hear from me again.  Thanks for your service.

Jay

Hi,

While evaluating your project I have noticed a few problems which are described below.

  • The source files don't have appropriate copyright and license notices.
  • The source does not include a verbatim copy of the license.

To release your source files properly under the GNU GPL, which is one of the licenses you indicated in your project submission, you must include a copyright notice and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long. This is explained in http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html and http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html.

Documentation source files must have copyright and license notices as well. Since the documentation is under GNU FDL, please see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html. Also, note that the license notice in the built PDF document reads, «[...] A copy of the license is included in the section entitled “GNU Free Documentation License”.» You should include such a section in the documentation.

In addition, please add README files to directories such as "img", "ps" and "svg", indicating the copyright and license applicable to the files contained in them.

Finally, please include a copy of the plain text version of the GNU GPL, available from https://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html, into a file named "COPYING" and place it in the root of your project.

Please (re)read the following documents to get your project approved quickly:

    https://savannah.gnu.org/register/requirements.php
    http://savannah.gnu.org/maintenance/HowToGetYourProjectApprovedQuickly

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with a URL to an updated tarball of your project or attach it to this tracker. Upon review, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Regards,

Hello,

Thank you!  BTW: it occurs to me that there might be a few extra text files in the current repository (temporary scratch papers) which do not currently bear the GPL license language.  All the important ones do, though, and I am happy to add it to everything (or just delete the temporary files if desired).

Registration Details

  • Name: Introduction to Probability and Statistics Using R
  • System Name:  ipsur
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later (The Org-babel code to generate the textbook is GPL and the textbook is FDL.)

Description:

This project is a free (that is, GNU-FDL) manual/textbook on  Probability and Statistics using free (that is, GNU-GPL) software, in particular, GNU-R. The entire textbook is written with Emacs Org mode by way of Org-Babel, and the code used to generate the textbook is completely free.

Other Software Required:

Dependency: GNU-R, License: GPL, Website: www.r-project.org
Dependency: GNU Emacs, License: GPL, Website: c'mon, really?

Other Comments:

The project is currently hosted at GitHub but I have recently learned that GitHub runs on non-free software which is unacceptable. I would like to migrate this project to someplace truly free, and I can think of no place which I would trust more.
