Registration Details

  • Name: Tovero Solid Modeling System
  • System Name:  tovero
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU Lesser General Public License (Sample code, certain run-time scripts, and example models:

Modified BSD (3 clause))

Description:

Tovero is 3D solid modeling system.  A Tovero model consists of a scene graph containing objects represented with constructive solid geometry (CSG).  Users can create Tovero models either dynamically with a scripting language (currently Ruby) or statically using C++.  The user runs the program or script which traverses the scene graph to create a binary model (currently a BRL-CAD ".g" database).  The user may then view, modify, analyze, translate, or render the model with BRL-CAD's tool set.

Tovero is not in general intended to be an interactive system, although it could be connected to a GUI.

The system is supplied as three libraries: general support, math (including 3D geometry), and graphics (including material attributes).  These libraries can be linked with existing code to incorporate the functionality of Tovero.  Each of these has a Ruby interface library generated with  SWIG.

Tovero implements units (e.g. meters), shape validation, tolerancing, and systematic error handling.  Since the project uses SWIG, which supports a number of languages, future releases may support languages other than Ruby (such as Scheme/Lisp or Python).
