Hi,

We did not get a response from you, so we deleted your project from the pending queue.

If you would still like to have your project hosted at Savannah, please register it again.

The re-registration URL found in our acknowledgment of your earlier registration will direct
you to the proper location where you can re-register your project.

Regards.

Sticking to GPLv2-only is troublesome, because your program will be incompatible with others programs under the GPLv3 (and later).

Sticking to a particular version of the GPL in general also makes your program vulnerable to any loophole in the license that will appear in the future, and will make it difficult for people to upgrade the license if they want to (they'll have to contact each individual copyright holder for this).

For these reasons, we recommend that you chose to license your project under version 2 or later - and express your concerns at gplv3.fsf.org :)

We cannot recommend people to switch to the next version of the GNU GPL and at the same time don't care when hosting projects. This is also why we do not allow GPLv2-only at Savannah, but this is not new. We are also refusing GNU GPL-incompatible software on Savannah from the beginning.

This has nothing to do with freedom - you're free to move somewhere else, as you pointed out. Besides, you are also refusing your users the freedom to use the GNU GPLv3 as well ;)

No, I wouldn't at all.

I am sad to hear that, I was hoping you forgot to add the "GPLv2 only" option.

Ok. That's not a problem... I will have my projects hosted elsewhere from now on. Just I don't understand why I can't release a software here under one (the most popular!) of your free software licenses. I simply don't (and I will never) support GPLv3 in any way, since I am very happy of v2, and I am not seeing any valid reason to change it.

> it will be important for all GPL-covered programs to advance to GPL v3.

That's just your opinion, I hope they won't. Forcing the projects you host to do it is comparable to what you are fighting, in subtracting freedom to developers and users.

Hello, I saw your mail on our mailinglist. Please use this tracker while replying instead of mail...

I don't want to review your current source code because of the reasons(s) described below:

Licensing under the "GNU GPL v2 only" is problematic.
Would you agree to license your project under the "GNU GPL v2 or later"?

The reason for this is that when we publish GPL v3,
it will be important for all GPL-covered programs to advance to GPL v3.
If you don't put this in the files now, the only way to port your program to GPL v3 would be to ask each
and every copyright holder, and that may be very difficult.

We can explain the issue in more detail if you wish.
If you have concerns about "GNU GPL v2 or later", we'd be happy to address them too.

Simply, if you don't want to release your project under "GNU GPL v2 or any later version" we cannot host your project here.

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Please include a (perhaps temporary) URL pointing to the source code.
The description you gave when registering will not be read by the general public.
If you are still concerned with privacy, however, you can forward the code to me by email.

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GPL you must include a copyright notice and
permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.  This is explained in
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.  Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

Furthermore you have choosen "Other" as a license. What license do you prefer for your project?
Regards,

Sebastian Wieseler <kickino>
