Hello..

I wanted to tell you, that after our project recently accepted by sourceforge, and additional got a trac from python-hosting.com, we recognized, this combination gives us the most flexibility for our project, and additional, they both use SVN which is not available here..

Also we can put different parts of the project under seperate licenses, if nessecary.

So I think you could remove it. I am really sorry that I got on your nerves to get the project up, and now have to tell you that our team decides to use another way of getting our project published..

My user account could stay there, but the project could be deleted.

Again, sorry :(

Greetings
Markus

Hello.

We won't approve anything before reviewing it. ;-)

I have approved your project for inclusion in Savannah.

We will be reviewing the cvs code in a month (or better at your request) to
check if the source files contain appropriate copyright notice and
permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.
Our review would help catch potential legal issues early.

You should get an automated email with more information shortly.

Hi..

Okay. You can approve it then, whenever you want - if you see its too less code atm to review, come back and review whenever you want.

We strongly believe in the GPL and everything thats behind it, so I can assure you we wont get into any copyright problems (the Jython implementation into the Java Client jDip will be handled via their project page on sourceforge, so there will also be no problems because of the unclear Java licensation issue)

If anything is required or developed, in form of a plugin etc. that doesnt fit with us, the author has to handle it on his own.

Sure, thats okay for me.
That would be great!

Greetings
Markus Majer.

Hi,

Your projects meets the Savannah requirements, except that we cannot review your source code yet.

We can approve it, and review the code in the near future (or better, at your request).
We will among other check if the source files contain appropriate copyright notice and permission-to-copy statements
at the beginning of every file of source code. Our review would help catch potential legal issues early.

If then the source code does not meet our requirements (for example, non-free dependencies),
we will then discuss the issue and possibly remove the project from Savannah.

Is this ok for you?

Hi..

I really wanted to host the project here.

But: What shall I do? We havent working code right now - we have a ugly front-end for testing purposes, a database structure, and the other things are all to be figured out (with another project also) - what we need first, is, a place who we can start to develop, including a VCS!

Wouldnt it be better to accept someone, according to their project description, and then perhaps look at the project after a few months, and if there would be really something that isnt compatible with the GPL, then close the project if you want.

As I said before, almost 80% percent of the code is from existing projects, which URLs to licenses I send you a few mails before.

We suscribed here, because we strongly believed in the things what GNU and the GPL standing for.

But if its so difficult to get new, free software started, we probably think about setting up a trac at python-hosting - they give them free for python based projects.

So, if you dont want us here, tell me the next days.

Thank you.
Markus Majer.

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project.
You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah?
If not, please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hello.

I would like to have a look at your existing source code even if it is non-functional. If you need then our services we will reconsider your project for approval.

Hi! Sure! :)

At first there is TurboGears, the web framework we want to use:
http://www.turbogears.org/about/license.html

And there is jDip, the project where we will use the maps from (they are SVG no GIFs! g):
http://jdip.sourceforge.net

There is only a few lines available, and really not functional, its all python code, a few TurboGears python modules, the xml-rpc module, etc. and some JavaScript on the client side...
(Do you really need some sourcecode right now? Then we must wait a few weeks, altough its sad, to start develop without a place we can put the source code on..)

Greetings,
Markus Majer.

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

At first, for those files you include from other projects, can you point me to their webpages or to the officiall license pages of these software?

At second, please include a (perhaps temporary) URL pointing to the source code.
The description you gave when registering will not be read by the general public.
If you are still concerned with privacy, however, you can forward the code to me by email.

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GPL you must include a copyright notice and
permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.  This is explained in
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.  Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

A new project has been registered at Savannah
The project account will remain inactive until a site admin approve or discard the registration.

######### REGISTRATION ADMINISTRATION #########

While this item will be useful to track the registration process, approving or discarding the registration must be done using the specific "Group Administration" page, accessible only to site administrators, effectively logged as site administrators (superuser):

  <https://savannah.gnu.org/siteadmin/groupedit.php?group_id=8539>

######### REGISTRATION DETAILS #########

Full Name:
----------
  Diplo - a long-term, web-based implement

System Group Name:
-----------------
  diplo

Type:
-----
  non-GNU software & documentation

License:
--------
GNU General Public License V2 or later

Description:
------------
"Diplo" will be a long-term, web-based game based on the board game "Diplomacy".

It will be written in Python, and uses TurboGears as its web framework - which includes Kid for templating the HTML, and the SVG files who are used to show the maps (that is really new and will look awesome).

Also there will be portions in JavaScript, to do some AJAX magic on the web interface.

"If you do not have any code to show yet, then say that explicitly."
Yes, we dont have any real code right now, a few files, but if we got together the last conclusions, the first versions coming out fast, because we have enough snippets to all our ideas.

We will use no GIFs, we use PNG. We dont use Flash, we use SVG. And we wanted it to be under the GPL. For this, we would be happy to be hosted in the Savannah :)

Other Software Required:
------------------------
  * Python -> TurboGears

  • SVG -> thats up to the user. FF 1.5 does it natively. For all others who dont, there are free implementations

  • Databases could be any type SQLobject (part of TurboGears) supports -> SQLite, mySQL, PostgreSQL etc.
