Hi,

We did not get a response from you, so we deleted your project from the pending queue.

If you would still like to have your project hosted at Savannah, please register it again.

The re-registration URL found in our acknowledgment of your earlier registration will direct you to the proper location where you can re-register your project.

Regards.

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project. You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

If you're having problems with any of the issues raised, please let us know, so we can assist you.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah? If not, please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hi

None of your source files contain any copyright headers. They contain free software statments, and permission to copy statements but none of them contain any copyright statement.

From http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html:

"The copyright notice should include the year in which you finished preparing the release (so if you finished it in 1998 but didn't post it until 1999, use 1998). You should add the proper year for each release: for example, "Copyright 1998, 1999 Linda Jones" if some versions were finished in 1998 and some were finished in 1999. If several people have helped write the code, use all their names."

Please also see http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for more information about this. It is important that you include these notices correctly.

Secondly, a few of your copyrightable files are still missing legal headers. Please add these, like the others.

Finally, until you have got FSF copyright papers sorted out. will we set the project type as nonGNU. We can change it if your project becomes official GNU software.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.  Upon review, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the tracker's web interface following the link below. Do not reply directly, the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we will not receive such replies.

Regards.

Hi,

You still have not made any of the changes requested in my comment on Thursday 04/27/06 at 10:58, nor have you answered any of the questions or points either. Without these changes and information, we cannot approve your project.

Please make all the changes requested, and answer all the questions I have asked, before providing us with a new tarball of your project.

Regards,

Steven

Hi,

I also notice that in your permission to copy statements you have the word "Foobar", which you should change to "Gregblog CMS".

Cheers.

Hi,

Please remove GIF image files from your project and replace them with an other format (such as PNG or JPEG).

Because of the patents (Unisys and IBM) covering the LZW compression algorithm which are used when making GIF files, it's impossible to have free software to generate proper GIFs.  These patents also apply to the compress program.

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/gif.html.

In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GNU GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long.

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

If some of your files cannot carry such notices (e.g. binary files), then you can add a README file in the same directory containing the copyright and license notices. Check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for further information.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.  To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

You have not added any copyright notices, and some files are still missing any legal headers.

You also mention in your comments that you have "Free software foundation copyright". Have you signed papers transferring copyright to the FSF? Only then would the code be copyright FSF. PLEASE provide us with more information about this.

Finally, your doc/ directory contains a copy of the MPL. This is confusing, and I do not see why it is necessary. Please explain this.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.  Upon review, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah. Please make sure you clarify the other points I have asked about.

To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the tracker's web interface following the link below. Do not reply directly, the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we will not receive such replies.

Hi,

Please note that Savannah supports projects of the Free Software movement, not projects of the Open Source movement.

We are careful about ethical issues and insist on producing software that is not dependent on proprietary software.

While Open Source as defined by its founders means something pretty close to Free Software, it's frequently misunderstood.  For more information, please see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.html. A large number of the files in your tarball have this error.

Also, please remove GIF image files from your project and replace them with an other format (such as PNG or JPEG).

Because of the patents (Unisys and IBM) covering the LZW compression algorithm which are used when making GIF files, it's impossible to have free software to generate proper GIFs.  These patents also apply to the compress program.

You also mention in your comments that you have "Free software foundation copyright". Have you signed papers transferring copyright to the FSF? Only then would the code be copyright FSF. Please provide us with more information about this.

Additionally, you state that your project is licensed under the GNU GPL, but your tarball does not contain a COPYING file with a complete copy of the GNU GPL, only a Mozilla.License file with the MPL. This makes it unclear how your software is licensed. Please correct it.

Finally, I notice that not all of your source files have the correct legal headers. Some files only have partial legal headers, and some files have none at all.

In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GNU GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long.

In addition, if you haven't already, please include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL, available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".

For very short files, it is not necessary to have the full headers. TODO and AUTHORS files are not required.

Please let me know when you have made all the changes, so I can review your tarball again.

Cheers.

Steven

also, some of the files used are very short
in length- 3 or 4 lines.  I wasn't sure about
how much of a header to add to those small files.

thank you
Greg

I am aware that I have not placed proper copyright headers
on all files.  I will set out to do this and update the tar ball.

Do I need to have a TODO and AUTHORS file in the mail
directory alongside COPYING?

thanks
Greg

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Your project is not part of the GNU project, so we cannot accept its current type.  We want to maintain the distinction between 'GNU' and'non-GNU' projects.  If your project is approved for inclusion into Savannah, we will set it's type to 'non-GNU'.

If your project is accepted into the GNU project you may change its type.  You can do this by asking us.

Also, you mention in your comments that you have "Free software foundation copyright". Have you signed papers transferring copyright to the FSF? Only then would the code be copyright FSF. Please provide us with more information about this.

Additionally, I tried to download your current tarball, but it was corrupt. GNU gzip says this when I try to gunzip it:

gunzip: gregblog_april12_2006.tar.gz has more than one entry -- unchanged

Please provide a non-broken tarball of your current code. We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GNU GPL you must include a copyright notice and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every  copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long.  This is explained in http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.  Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

Note that sending code to our repositories is a release, since the code will then be publicly available through anonymous access.

Finally, the "System Group Name" that you filled in during registration should be a unique name for your project to have on the system, such as "gregblog", rather than the type of system it runs on. If you would pick a different system name that would be great.

Regards.
