Sebastian,

Thanks for your patience. The latest iteration can be found at:

http://paperdove.org/gnome-columns-b3.tar.bz2

The only modifications from the last submission are the copyright notice updates, as per your request. I hope this brings everything up-to-date.

Thanks again, Sir.

Hello...

I had a very nice day today, so I'll postpone your project 2 weeks... but usually I would prefer you re-register when you are ready...

See you hopefully soon.

Sebastian,

I apologize for my lack of response. I am currently in Bangkok for work, and haven't had any time to myself. I definitely wish to host my project, meager as it is, on Savannah. I will be back home in about 2 weeks, and will follow up then.

I'm sorry for the delay.

-Tony

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project.
You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah?
If not, please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hello and thanks. :-)

At first, could you please insert the full GPL header into the README file of your media files not only the statement that they were released unter this license?

At second, the address of the FSF has changed, and is now:

51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA  02110-1301  USA

Please update your license notices.

Updates versions of the GPL, LGPL and GFDL can also be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt

Please update the copy of the license (usually, the 'COPYING' file) in your package as well.

You can find some background and a possible migration script at https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=3766

Regards and nice day :)

No worries with the long reply time. I'm in no rush.

I do have it hosted on Sourceforge at the moment, but I'd much rather host it on Savannah. I can close down the SF project; it's out-of-date, anyway.

Hello and sorry for the long delay. Are you still interested in hosting your software on Savannah or did you get hosted somewhere else allready?

Sorry for the inconvience.

Hello, Sir. I apologize I took so long to reply.

The new tarball can be found at:

http://paperdove.org/gnome-columns-b2.tar.bz2

The media files for the shiney theme have copyright and license notices in a README file. There is no longer a libSDL dependency. The entire thing has been re-written in C, instead of Objective-C. I think that's the major list of things.

Hello.

For media files? We don't prefer any license for media files. You can choose (almost) all free (software) licenses for your media files.
But of course, we would be glad to see you released those files under the terms of the GNU GPL. :-)

Is there are a new URI to fetch the tarball or still the old one?

libSDL: http://www.libsdl.org/license.php (LGPL)
libGL (Mesa): http://www.mesa3d.org/license.html (MIT)
libGLU (Mesa): http://www.mesa3d.org/license.html (LGPL)
Gnome libraries: http://gnome.org/  (Part of the GNU project)

Sorry about the misunderstanding on OpenGL: I really use Mesa. I know, I know, I shouldn't've referred to it as OpenGL. Mea culpa.

"GPL V2 or later" is fine by me. That's how it reads in the 'COPYING' file, and in the source code.

I will add the README file in the media directory, as per the referenced link. Is there a preferred license for media files?

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

At first, can you please point me directly to all project home pages (or the license pages of them :)) of your required software?

At second, OpenGL is problematic, it was released under a GPL incompatible license. Would you like to switch to the free alternative Mesa (http://www.mesa3d.org/)?

At third, "are licensed under GPLv2." -
Licensing under the "GNU GPL v2 only" is problematic.
Would you agree to license your project under the "GNU GPL v2 or later"?

The reason for this is that when we publish GPL v3,
it will be important for all GPL-covered programs to advance to GPL v3.
If you don't put this in the files now, the only way to port your program to GPL v3 would be to ask each
and every copyright holder, and that may be very difficult.

We can explain the issue in more detail if you wish.
If you have concerns about "GNU GPL v2 or later", we'd be happy to address them too.

At fourth, for your .png please include a README file in their directory and write there copyright+license notices down.
Have an additional look at http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html

A new project has been registered at Savannah
The project account will remain inactive until a site admin approve or discard the registration.

######### REGISTRATION ADMINISTRATION #########

While this item will be useful to track the registration process, approving or discarding the registration must be done using the specific "Group Administration" page, accessible only to site administrators, effectively logged as site administrators (superuser):

  <https://savannah.gnu.org/admin/groupedit.php?group_id=8410>

######### REGISTRATION DETAILS #########

Full Name:
----------
  GNOME Columns

System Group Name:
-----------------
  gnome-columns

Type:
-----
  non-GNU software & documentation

License:
--------
GNU General Public License V2 or later

Description:
------------
gnome-columns is a game. Currently written in a very poor Objective-C, I  am in the process of re-writing in pure C. It uses OpenGL to draw the gameboard.

In spite of the name, it is not integrated with Gnome at the moment. I am refactoring the game to make it a Gnome program, though. Mostly, it'll use gconf, and maybe a wizard or two for configuration, along with the standard array of menu items.

I started the game as a learning tool. I wanted to play with Objective-C (having used it years ago on the NeXT) and learn OpenGL. The game itself is essentially a re-implementation of xjewel, with prettier graphics and a few changes and additions to gameplay.

The current source code is at: http://paperdove.org/gnome-columns.tar.bz2

It should compile cleanly on any GNU/Linux box with libGL, libGLU, libSDL, and objc. But I make no promises, as I am not the greatest with autoconf / automake quite yet (yet another set of tools I am learning).

The graphics are all png, and all are copyright by me. The entire thing, including graphics (and sounds, when I finally get to that point) are licensed under GPLv2.

Other Software Required:
------------------------
Oh! I thought that was technical, so that's where I put it. As a list:

libSDL
libGL
libGLU
Gnome libraries

Those are common, but probably not found on a minimum Free OS.
