Since there is too much unrelated content in this task, I created a new one as task #5470 and will now close this one.

Assigned to Marco since he was interested in doing this as part of a rewrite of pfinet.

IPV6 is a kernel-agnostic standard and there are many packages that depend
on it.  You really need to provide it for any complete Debian GNU port.  I
suggest you upload a hacked inetutils package to gnuab.  Implementing an ipv6
interface with dummy (ENOSYS) stubs is also a good workaround IMHO.

No, the package built before the introduction of IPv6 support, so it s
a regression in inetutils. I m uploading a fixed inetutils to Debian.
IPv6 support on the Hurd is a wishlist.

guillem

I have made a task item instead of this, since lacking IPv6 support is not a bug per see, it is a missing feature.

Eeeh not really.  I should have made it more clear (the bug title isn't enough).  The original debian bug was cloned into

- http://bugs.debian.org/273962: inetutils FTBFS, which is a debian bug and was fixed.
- http://bugs.debian.org/274156: pfinet lacks ipv6 support, which is really a Hurd wishlist item, and was the reason why I forwarded the bug to Savannah.

So this bug is still open: pfinet should support ipv6 on the long run.

This is a Debian bug, they should do proper checks before copying ping6 or any other IPV6 program.
