I totally agree with you - but for the software, please open another project registration.
Thanks.

And now I close this tracker item.

hi,

After looking at the issues.
I seems to me that hosting the book on Savannah will be
to much for me.
I just cannot keep up with all copyright notices for every
single directory.
However, I think that software (either gpl or dgl or both)
can be hosted on
Savannah. The software can be kept in one directory
and only one notice will be needed.
This is something that I can handle.
Is this acceptable?

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project.
You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah?
If not, please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hello and sorry for the long delay.

At first, maybe you can devide your software from your documentation? It would be good to start a new project for your software if it is interesting for other people, too.
Or another chance could be to release it under the GNU GPL and FDL (dual licensing).

At second,  I'd recommend using the standard license notice(s), plus the GFDL included as a section of the documentation; then in each documentation source code, use the tiny license notice(s) (+ copyright notice(s)) that can be found at http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html

Once more to make it clearer: the standard copyright+license notice(s) would appear in the resulting printed document, in the copyright page, near the beginning of the book; the GFDL is another section, usually at the end.

In the end every "end-format" (pdf, html) must include the whole license and one copyright line.

Futhermore the information you need to that are described in:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html
http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html#Copyright-Notices

At third, everything I told you about the GNU FDL must be followed for the "Potto license" as well, of course, there are no differences for the general including of license and copyright information.

Please update your whole source code and provide us with the new URI.

Sebastian Wieseler <kickino>

Hi,

I have added the permission/notice/copying file
to different directories of calculations.
The book "fundamentals of compressible flow" itself
seem to be in a appropriate license.

I wonder is a script that find all the directories and
install the right file into there.

Genick Bar-Meir

1. calculations lack a COPYING/LICENSE file.

2. For the binary files (such es .png, .esp) please write a README file in their directories and include the whole copyright and license notices in this file. See also http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html

3. The existing README files lack at least the copyright of the images. If possible you should also add the permission-to-copy statements from the GNU FDL and then the "dual licensing sentence".

4. Please read and follow the instructions to release a file under the GNU Free Document license, available under:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto-opt.html

Hi

I have made the changes in the various files to
reflect the dual licenses.
You can check statues on www.potto.org
for the book ``Fundamentals of compressible flow mechanics.''
I believe that even in the source code of the book (LaTeX) the
proper notice can be found.
The next version of the book will be only GFDL.

The gas dynamics calculator is also under GFDL.
If you would like I can change it to GPL.

Thanks,
Genick

Hello.

Refering to your website:
"These documents and software are open content and/or open source."

Note that Savannah supports projects of the Free Software movement, not projects of the Open Source movement.

We are careful about ethical issues and insist on producing software that is not dependent on proprietary software.

While Open Source as defined by its founders means something pretty close to Free Software, it's frequently
misunderstood.
For more information, please see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.html.

At second, in order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the FDL (too),
please place copyright notices and license statements (of FDL and the "Open Content License") after the title page of each work.
And add there the notices for your dual licensing, too.

In addition, if you haven't already, please add a copy of the FDL
(available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html in various formats) as a section of your works , and as plain text in a file named 'COPYING.FDL' (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt) and the "Open Content License" in a file, too.

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html#SEC4

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html also covers additional points, including a smaller notice that you can use in auxiliary files.

For the binary files (such es .png, .esp) please write a README file in their directories and include the whole copyright and license notices in this file, too.

Hi,

I have included the copyright statement that contains verbatim copy
of Gnu Free Document License and I already inserted in my pdf version of the book.
See enclosed (the numbers are changing when LaTeXing the files),
the copyright statement.
The pdf version of the book also contain this statement
as you can see from the copy of Fundamentals of internal Compressible Flow book
on www.potto.org.
The copyright on www.potto.org already is a dual licenses statement.

Yet, the ps version, dvi version and source code do not
contain the correct statement.
Some people asked me to do additional corrections to other parts of the book
and the software.
Hopefully, in the early part of the next week I will be able to put
these corrections with the new ps, dvi, sources code and  to reflect the new
copyright statement.

The source code of the book and software is at www.potto.org.
under the compressible flow book.

The book "fundamentals of internal compressible flow" is under
http://www.potto.org/text.pdf
The source code for the Gas Dynamic Calculator "software"
http://www.potto.org/gdcT.tar.gz

Hello.

I don't see any references to the GNU FDL in your license. The "Open Content License" is incompatible with the GNU FDL, so you we cannot host your project with this license and your "Potto Project License" looks GNU FDL incompatible, too.

A statement in your COPYING file could solve the problem:

"This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of either:

a) the GNU Free Document License as published by the Free
Software Foundation; either version 1.2, or (at your option) any
later version, or

b) the Open Content License, Version 1.0

And can you please point me to the source code of your work?

The document will be distribute either under the modified
document (removing the restriction on the fee)  or by
 GNU Free Documentation License,
the user choice.

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

The main big problem of your project is your actually license.
"Open Content License, Version 1.0" is a "Non-Free Documentation Licenses", which "does not qualify as free, because there are restrictions on charging money for copies. We recommend you not use this license.", http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#OCL

Sorry but this license is incompatible with our GNU Free Document License, so we cannot host your project here.

Would you like we skip the registration on this point or do you want to try to change the license?

  Potto project   (www.potto.org)

Potto Project is open content project that intent to be used by the community to write quality text books for colleges. Using the open content model (check it out www.opencontent.org).

While the Founding Fathers Of this Country thought that the copyright is only for a limit time, the courts and some legislators now think otherwise and indeed the passed the ``right'' laws. This project is one reaction to this kind of thinking. Since the driving force behind the ``copyright for ever'' is economical and not moral (why we give copyright in the first place), if we can remove that force, the ``copyright for ever'' push will also dwindle down and perhaps will be illuminated.

There are currently two text books on the web site

And there are associated softwares with the first book
 "Fundamentals of internal compressible Flow."
The software name gdc and it written in c++ compiled using g++.
There is also user interface build using qt.
