Hi,

I have approved your project.  You will receive an automated e-mailcontaining detailed information about the approval.

However, please keep in mind that, as mentioned in the registration pages, we do not host complete distros, distros isos, packages repositories, etc, for space and bandwidth reasons. We may just offer support for organisational purpose and dedicated software (such as iso creation scripts). So if your project gets to be really large inform us and we well have a look.

Regarding your questions:

1 - "If I get some code with GPL license and copyright and I modify it to use with my GPL code, Can I put my copyright and the original, or only the original?"

Answer: Yes, you can modify the file and put your copyright below the original. See also
http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html

2 - "If I get some code with License error (like the Address, or
something like that) , must I fix that?"

Answer: You can always fix the address on your own of existing code. But if the "problems" are bigger then please contact the original author, yes.

3 - "If I get code from differents authors (all GPL) to write some modules, must I to specify what piece of code has written each author?"

Answer: If the authors have got copyright on the module(s), then you should keep track of it.
You are not allowed to breake copyright(s).

If the files are not copyrighted, you should ask the original author to includes such copyrights or to includes statements which say that the file was released under public domain.

Thanks.

Hello, I changed the copyright note in these files for this:

/*

  •  Copyright:
  •  1998 Fabian Nunez <fabian@cs.uct.ac.za>
  •  2005 Pablo Guerrero Rosel <523958@unizar.es>

 *

  •  This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify
  •  it under the ....

But, I have some questions:

If I get some code with GPL license and copyright and I modify it to use with my GPL code, Can I put my copyright and the original, or only the original?

If I get some code with License error (like the Address, or something like that) , must I fix that?

If I get code from differents authors (all GPL) to write some modules, must I to specify what piece of code has written each author?

Sorry I write too questions, but I want to known what I have to do in the future.

Thanks.

Hi,

You are including parts of the floppy.tar.gz code into Nopos ignoring the copyright notices of it. So please fix floppy.c and include/floppy.h so that they use the original notices.

Regards.

Sorry, I forget this files.

Now in nopos3.tar.gz are all files we want to include, all (except COPYING) with the header and copyright note.

Thanks for your time!

Hi,

If you want to host the floppy code at Savannah we need you to make the changes I previously suggested:

  • Change the FSF address in the GPL notices in the C and header files.
  • Change the FSF address in the GPL notices in the COPYING file.

You could read http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html for more information. It is important to update the notices in code that is not you own. This is necessary for the submission to be accepted.

As for the modifications you made to the nopos code, you still need to add author copyright information at the begining of each of the C and header files, right before the GPL notice. For example:

Copyright 2005 Author <author@mail.com>

You also need to add copyright information and GPL notice for floppy.c, include/floppy.h and include/salida.h

The floppy.tar.gz it's only to verify that is gpl code (we get it from internet), parts of this code are included in floppy.c and floppy.h (We not resend you).

In nopos2.tar.gz we removed include/.svn directory, added COPYING file and modify the address on all files.

It's all??

Thank you.

Pablo

Hi,

There are a few comments in each tarball. First the floppy.tar.gz:

The address of the FSF has changed, and is now:

51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA  02110-1301  USA

Please update your license notices.

Please update the copy of the license (usually, the 'COPYING' file) in your package as well.

Updated versions of the GPL, LGPL and GFDL can also be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt

You can find some background and a possible migration script at https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=3766

I also recommend you add copyright and author notices to test.c

As for nopos.tar.gz:

Please update your license notices, to the new FSF address (same as for floppy.tar.gz).
Also a COPYING file must be included with a copy of the license itself.
Please remove the svn directory, we currently have no subversion support. You also need to add copyright and license to all the files, and clarify them.

Regars,
Davidlohr Bueso A.

Hello, we want to use the Savannah services only for source code and
media files needed in the future (small graphics or something like
that). If you haven't any problem we can upload kernel binary ready for
load with grub, but it's "only a question".

We attach the source code, and the original code of the floppy.

Please take a look to this files: floppy.c, floppy.h, boot.s
Because the others are "fully written" by us.

Thanks!

Pablo Guerrero

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

As mentioned in the registration pages, we do not host complete distros, distros isos, packages repositories, etc, for space and bandwidth reasons. We may just offer support for organisational purpose and dedicated software (such as iso creation scripts).

How do you plan to use the Savannah services?
If you plan to host such software:

Please include a (perhaps temporary) URL pointing to the source code (including the floppy control code). The description you gave when registering will not be read by the general public. If you are still concerned with privacy, however, you can forward the code to me by email.

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early.
For example, to release your program properly under the GNU GPL you must include a copyright notice and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.  This is explained in http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.
Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

Regars,
Davidlohr Bueso A.

Description:

At first, sorry for my english. The idea is develop a simple free operating system (first the kernel) to learn how it works, and write some documentacion to help people that is begining like us. There are some free projects like this, but there are too larges to study, and the documentation is too dificult.

Now, we have some lines of code, in c and a bit of asm. At first is only for i386. We use Grub to load the "kernel". Today, the kernel doesn't show something usefull, but we had implemented IDT and GTD control, a simple text-mode display and read-only fat (very simple).

We use GPL code for the floppy control. The rest is GPL write by us.

We don't have a URL with the code, but we can send you by mail (less than 1Mb, I think).

In short, we want to learn to write an OS and help others too.

Thanks.
