The system says I approved your project last time (apparently it wasn't a good day :)).

The new version looks good, happy hacking :)

could you explain which files you referring to?

this is done in the new version

> include a smaller notice that you need to use in auxiliary files.

this is done in the new version

BTW, on August 5th, I've received a message saying :

Your project registration for Savannah has been approved.
Project Full Name:   TFTB -- the Time-Frequency Toolbox
Project System Name: tftb
Project page:        /projects/tftb

so, is the project approved?

Hello,

Apologizes for this terrible delay; I had reviewed your new tarball, but for some unknown unforgiving reason I didn't actually write the follow-up.

Your proposal to exclude the demos sounds good.

However, I see that some of your files have some legalese issues.

You added the license notices, but did not add appropriate copyright notices.

Please check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for more information, and update your files.

Also, you should add a statement at after the title page of your documentation.

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html also covers how to include a smaller notice that you need to use in auxiliary files.

Please send me an updated source archive.

If however you found another host for your project, then accept my apologizes and please tell me about it.

sorry, there was a typo. the URL is

http://www.obs-nice.fr/ecm/tftb_octave_matlab.tgz

i understand your point. we'd like to have the whole
TFTB running with GNU Octave including the demos.

however, the availability in GNU Octave of a graphical
interface adequate for displaying time-frequency
maps does not depend on us. one possibility would
be to remove the demos from the current distribution and
include them when Octave's graphics have improved.

eric.

Hi,

I can't review the updated source code because the link is broken.

Note that we want software hosted at Savannah to run on a completely free operating system; that is, I would like to run any part of it (besides ports) on a free OS, without requiring any proprietary software such as MathLab.

This has to be possible now, not in the future. Likewise, we expect Java applications to be runnable with a free Java suite such as GCJ+Classpath, and we reject Java application that require a proprietary implementation such as Sun's, even if they stick to the official API.

However, if your first and primary focus with this project is to make it run with GNU Octave, then we may approve your project to ease that task.
If you agree with this commitment, please say so.

Regards.

Hi,

sorry for the delay. It took me time to get the elements needed.

here is a URL where you can get an updated version of the TFTB

http://www.obs-nice.fr/ecm/tftb_octave_matlab.tar.gz

I've have added the sources of the doc. they include GFDL.
I've have added the GPL licence to the demos and tests.

the demos does not run entirely with Octave.
this is essentially due to the use of graphical functions.
the graphical interface of Octave and Matlab are not fully compatible
but Octave's development team will hopefully
fix this soon.

most tests should run properly with the version of Octave
you installed. note that you need to install a recent
version of Octave-forge as well.

cheers, eric.

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project. You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah? If not, please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

The documentation only comes in PostScript format; please add the source code to the archive as well. Also, the file does not have a clear licensing; we recommend the GNU Free Documentation License for technical documentation.

Here is the standard instructions for using the GFDL:
In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GFDL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements after the title page of each work.

In addition, if you haven't already, please add a copy of the FDL (available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html in various formats) as a section of your works , and as plain text in a file named 'COPYING' (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt).

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html#SEC4

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html also covers additional points, including a smaller notice that you can use in auxiliary files.

The source files in 'mfiles' carry appropriate copyright and license notices. However, lots of files in other directories lack them. Can you fix this?

Last, can you give me some basic instructions on how to run the demos, or what version of Octave is recommended to run them? I installed Octave 2.1 and I get syntax errors such as:
parse error near line 9 of file tfdemo7.m

  syntax error

>>> clc; clf; zoom on; set(gca,'visible','off');

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.  Upon review, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the tracker's web interface following the link below. Do not reply directly, the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we will not receive such replies.

Regards.

Description:
------------
Description: The Time-Frequency Toolbox (TFTB) is a library of about
100 GNU Octave/Matlab (R) scripts, developed for data analysis using
time-frequency distributions (TFDs). It includes signal generators,
calculation codes of various TFDs, and several tools (including
visualization) for post-processing the TFDs. Each function of the
toolbox has an online help and is documented in a reference
manual. Several demonstrations are also available.
History: The TFTB has been distributed since 1997 for Matlab (R) only,
and as a shareware under a non-free licence. Recent modifications make
the TFTB usable with both GNU Octave and Matlab (R). The authors and
their funding institutions gave their agreement to distribute the new
sources of TFTB under the terms of the GPL licence.
Future plans: We ask to Savannah to host the new sources of the TFTB.
The objective is to facilitate the maintenance of the code by multiple
developers through CVS. If Savannah accepts to host TFTB, it will
become the central distribution web site. Our old web sites will
either remain in sync by some automatic mirroring schemes,
point to sources on Savannah or be switched off.
