Unfortunately, I have not had proper timely responses from the current maintainers.  Please close this submission for now. When and if I receive the answers I (and you) need, I will resubmit. :(

Hello.

It's okay for us. Please tell us when you are ready, and provide us with an updated tarball.

If you notice that you'll need more time then one week, please tell us, too.

Regards,

Sorry for the lack of response. I am still attempting to straighten out a couple of the issues you have raised.  Some of the key people have been randomly on vacation so it's been much slower than I expected.

Yes, I am still interested in having the project hosted on savannah.  I'm hoping to have everything resolved in the next week or so, once everyone's around and responding.

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you / the updated tarball.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project.
You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah? If not, please tell us - we don't bite,
and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hello.

If you are ready, please include a (perhaps temporary) URL pointing to the source code.
The description you gave when registering will not be read by the general public.
If you are still concerned with privacy, however, you can forward the code to me by email.
Or you attach the source code on this tracker item. Please choose one of these options.

Regards,

Sebastian Wieseler <kickino>

Thank you very much for the helpful feedback and prompt response. Of the issues you have identified, the address change, ensuring the GSM copyright notice is present, adding of copyright and license slugs to source files and the use of "GNU/Linux" are simple matters that can be fixed quickly.

I am following up on the iLBC issue (thank you for pointing it out to me). I am not expecting a difficulty here, but don't have an official response yet from the current maintainers.

We're also looking into using GnuTLS instead of OpenSSL. In our case, the change should be simple.

All of this may take a few days to resolve.

What is the preferred method to provide you with an updated source tree?  Attach it to this node?

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

First "Linux" is just a kernel of a more complex system that we like to refer to as GNU/Linux, to emphasize the ideals of the Free Software movement.

Would you mind changing references to Linux as an OS to GNU/Linux?

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.html.

Second some of your files lacks any notice about license and copyright.
But in order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.

In addition, if you haven't already, please include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL,
available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.
To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example,
see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

Third the license notices in gsm/* points to COPYRIGHT which does not exist. Please be so kind to fix this.

Fourth the files in ilbc has got no license notices either. Do you know where you put the files from and ask for the license of these files? Because we had to know under which license everybody can use the files.

Fifth the png files have got also no notice about owner, license and copyright. Please add a file in the directory with the png-files and write the notices about the files there.
Please see http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/maintain.html#Copyright-Notices

And about the OpenSSL issue.
You can not use the exception, because if you want to use parts of other GPL-covered programs by other authors in your code, you cannot authorize the exception for them. You have to get the approval of the copyright holders of those programs.
(look at http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLIncompatibleLibs)
But this is impossible for you because you use Qt (GNU GPL) at least, and that library doesn't have the exceptinon.

That's why we reommend to use GnuTLS (LGPL) instead of OpenSSL.

And the very last point: The address of the FSF has changed, and is now:

51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA  02110-1301  USA

Please update your license notices.

Updates versions of the GPL, LGPL and GFDL can also be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt

Please update the copy of the license (usually, the 'COPYING' file) in your package as well.

You can find some background and a possible migration script at https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=3766
