Hopefully all issues have been addressed. See http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/outl/otl-0.32.tar.bz2?download

Hi,

You need to make available to me, by mail, URL (at SF or any other place where you have write access), or by attaching to this tracker, an updated tarball that fixes the issues I mentioned.

I can't tell Sourceforge about it until I know where the project is moving to. What URL should Sourceforge use to link to this project on Savannah?

Also, I can't (apparently) upload the tarball to the ftp://savannah.gnu.org/incoming/savannah/bar directory via anonymous ftp yet.

So...still willing to host my project at Savannah but need to know how to proceed...

Thanks,

Alan

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project. You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah? If not, please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hello,

To move your project to Savannah, you need to tell SourceForge about it.

This page
https://sourceforge.net/project/admin/removal.php?group_id=132991
should point you to a form where you can mention a project "relocation".

Since your project do not use the SourceForge CVS repository, you will only need to upload your tarballs to the Savannah download area once the project is approved (check the Savannah FAQ for details).

Your project complies with Savannah's requirements and can be hosted here.

Before to host your files however, we ask that all files carry an appropriate copyright and license notice.

Here is the standard instructions we have:
In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.

In addition, if you haven't already, please include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL, available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

If some of your files cannot carry such notices (e.g. binary files), then you can add a README file in the same directory containing the copyright and license notices. Check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for further information.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.  To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

In your case, you need to add notices to the tag-remove.pl files, as well as a README file for your gui/* data.

Also, the address of the FSF has changed, and is now:

51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA  02110-1301  USA

Updates versions of the GPL, LGPL and GFDL can also be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt

Please update the copy of the license (usually, the 'COPYING' file) in your package as well.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.

Regards.

Thanks for prodding me to think about the whole "free" vs. "open source" issue (I've been out of town for a few days -- sorry for the delay in addressing this). After reading several articles on the issue, I realize that the philosophy behind Savannah fits with my project -- I'd like to switch to Savannah for hosting the project. Please let me know how to proceed.

Thank you for your time,

Alan

Hi,

First, note that Savannah supports projects of the Free Software movement, not projects of the Open Source movement.

We are careful about ethical issues and insist on producing software that is not dependent on proprietary software.

While Open Source as defined by its founders means something pretty close to Free Software, it's frequently misunderstood.  For more information, please see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.html.

At Savannah, we only accept project that will actually make use of our website. If the project is unused, or if it is used only as a download area, the system will be unnecessarily loaded some more (among others, during  system synchronization). We have no 'placeholder' project type (freshmeat.org-like), but we may consider offering this.

Do you now know what use you intend to make of the Savannah services? :)

Thank you for your kind response. I am unsure what use I will make of Savannah services at this point. Since Savannah is one of the major open source sites, my main intent was to ensure that my software is available to as many people as possible and figured I should list it on Savannah to give people the option to use it. If that isn't an appropriate way to look at things, please let me know. I've gotten so much from the open source community -- I just wanted to give back a little.

I have modified the code to explicitly indicate that the source can be distributed under the GPL version 2 and later (and fixed a few bugs) in release 0.30.

Thank you for your time,

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Can you state what use you intend to make of the Savannah services? Do you plan to migrate from SourceForge?

Also, your source code contains a copyright and license notice, but the license notice does not state that the file can be distributed under the GNU GPL version 2 or later. Can you fix this?

Regards.

Description:

otl converts a text file written in a user-specified syntax to a second text file with user-specified markup. The default conversion is from a simple, readable text file syntax designed for writing an outline to XHTML. However, otl can be used for many types of conversion since the syntax of the source file and of the output can both be customized by the user. otl is more than a search/replace front-end: it can process complex structures such as ordered and unordered lists (nested or unnested), add custom "headers" and "footers" to documents, etc. The package also includes tag-remove, a script for stripping XML tags from documents.

Source code can be found at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/outl/

  otl requires perl
