Hi,

We did not get a response from you, so we deleted your project from the pending queue.

If you would still like to have your project hosted at Savannah, please register it again.

The re-registration URL found in our acknowledgment of your earlier registration will direct you to the proper location where you can re-register your project.

Regards.

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project. You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Regards.

Hi,

Can you explain me how you proceeded?

As far as I'm concerned, launching the JBoss package using the version of gij shipped with FC3 resulted in an exception.

We would like that your project run in a completely free OS; the presence of a package at jpackage.org does not necessarily mean that it will run fine with a free version of Java. Likewise, despite the fact that all Apache projects are released under a free software license, they most often require people to use the proprietary JDK from Sun.

Btw, whether your Java projects needs to be natively compiled or byte-compiled (as was done for Eclipse 2) is not important; all we need is being able to run it without using proprietary software.

Also note that Savannah supports projects of the Free Software movement, not projects of the Open Source movement.

We are careful about ethical issues and insist on producing software that is not dependent on proprietary software.

While Open Source as defined by its founders means something pretty close to Free Software, it's frequently misunderstood.  For more information, please see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.html.

I have tested the code by deploying it in Jboss application server. It seems to be working fine. Moreover, I have checked out the site http://jpackage.org. Both JBoss and Struts are present in it. So i am sure that my code is working fine with free software Java suite.

The other dependencies that i need (hibernate, spring, tiles) are released by Apache software foundation. As per my knowledge they are part of open source software group.

http://jpackage.org also seem to be worth visiting. It provides among others JBoss packages.

I am available to answer your questions.

Please make sure now that your project cam be used with a free software Java suite. I am not sure that JBoss can already run with it.

Other starting points include:

Hi Sylvain,

I think the term "free" (as in freedom) is what i want
the software to be. It should be free to use and to be
modified by anyone, and it should be open-source. I am
a little bit confused about the license to use,so you
can as well advise me about it. I can also change the
name to Free-LMS, which is not a problem at all.

I will also test out the Free Java Suite and use it
for this project.

Regards,

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Savannah's mission is to host free software projects, and we want the public to think of them as free software projects.  A project name that says "open" will tend to lead people to think of the project as "open source" instead of "free software".

We would be glad if you accept to use "free" instead of "open" in your project name.

For this reason, you must determine whether your project can run on a Free Software Java suite (see http://www.gnu.org/software/java/ for more information).

We recommend you to test your project using GCJ and GNU Classpath, and ensure that your Java code runs on this Free Software Java suite.

GCJ is the GNU Compiler for Java, part of the GCC (GNU Compiler Collection).  The Classpath project aims to develop a free and portable implementation of the Java API (the classes in the 'java' package).

More information is available at http://gcc.gnu.org/ and http://www.gnu.org/software/classpath/.

Please provide us with more information about this point.

Since you still are in design phase, we recommand to develop it using free technologies from the start. You may be interested in reading "Free But Shackled" http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/java-trap.html

Description:
------------
Library Management System is an open source library management system. This can be used by libraries of schools and medium-sized colleges. Library Management System or OpenLMS will be web based and it will enable its user to effectively administer the common functionalities of library. The coding of OpenLMS has not yet started and i am hoping to start it very soon after the design is over. Right now i have deciding over the database schema. OpenLMS will essentially have a backend database of MySQL. OpenLMS will be implemented in J2EE technology like JSP, Servlets, Struts, Hibernate, etc. It will run on jboss application server, which is again open source.
Through OpenLMS i would like to provide a free software to be used by library administrators for effectively managing the books in library. Till now the project's scope is limited to books and journals only. Digital media is out of scope for this project.

  Java
