Hi Jonathan,

I have added the copyright notice to vtags.html
and added COPYING.FDL to the newly attached tarball.

I'll keep you posted about SF relocation.

Hi Edward,

The 'vtags.el' file is fine, but you have a Vtags.html file that it's
a document for your project, consider to use the GNU FDL on it. In
order to release your documentation properly and unambiguously under
the FDL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy
statements after the title page of each work.

In addition, if you haven't already, please copy a copy
of the plain text version of the FDL, available from
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt, into a file named "COPYING" or if
you prefer a file named "COPYING.FDL".

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html.

With this change we can approve your project, but after approve,
please keep us up to date with your relocation process at SF.net.

Regards,

Jonathan Gonzalez V. <zeus>

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for your message.

I have posted to the sourceforge vtags project news
stating that the project is being relocated here.

I have added a COPYING file.

I am attaching a tarball to this tracker.

Please let me know what else is needed for approval.

Hi Edward,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Can you submit a package and not just one file?, you must include more
than one file in your package, like the 'COPYING' file that should
contain a verbatim copy of the GNU GPL, that you can found here:

  http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt

On the other hand we do not accept mirroring in Savannah, that's why
you have to delete or mark as relocated your project at SF.net,
consider to start this process as soon as possible. If you need a
space to upload your package, you can do it in this tracker.

Please, any answer submitted to this tracker and not by email.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide
us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.  Upon review, we
will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

Description:
------------
The purpose of this project is to provide a replacement
for the Emacs etags package.

On large projects it is not unusual to have multi-MB tag files. One of the main drawbacks of etags is that the tags are not sorted so that tag lookup is linear and slow. Another shortcoming of using etags and Emacs is that the entire tag file is loaded into memory, which, when combined with the linear search, leads to interminable garbage collection and memory exhaustion. This project addresses these issues. It does a binary search without reading the entire tag file into memory.

A preliminary version of this project is available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/vtags/

Other Software Required:
------------------------
This project should be compatible with most versions of Emacs or XEmacs. We will try to minimize version dependencies.

Other Comments:
---------------
The vtags project has been hosted at http://sourceforge.net/projects/vtags/ since Sept 21, 2004. It was announced to comp.emacs on Oct 3 2004.
Shortly thereafter, Richard M. Stallman suggested that vtags and etags be merged. I think it is a good idea. We have had some preliminary discussions on which features can be implemented efficiently and which cannot. I will incorporate some of that discussion in the upcoming documentation.
