I put copyright notices in all more-ten-lines files.

The file doc/Makefile is automatically generated. I did not write it, I just made a little modification (2 lines).

I included a FDL notice after title in the documentation main page.

I included the FDL as a section of the documentation.

Last version is here:

For that part on more information on the FDL, use this link to see the "Addendum: How to use this License for your documents."

It was this link which explains how we determine which files are copyrightable.

http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html

Basically any file that is not auto-generated and is non-trivial with ten lines or longer.

These files I think are still copyrightable.

setup.py
tests/clean.test
tests/signal_capture.py
tests/conditions.test
samples/is_google_reachable.test
samples/remote1.test

This file may be useful to copyright under the FDL, since it's a helper script for the compiling of the documentation.
doc/Makefile

This file I think is auto-generated, so there is no need to copyright it.
doc/conf.py

In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GFDL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements after the title page of each work.

In addition, if you haven't already, please add a copy of the FDL (available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html in various formats) as a section of your works.

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html also covers additional points, including a smaller notice that you can use in auxiliary files.

I put already a file called COPYING in the root level. See here:

http://arco.esi.uclm.es/~david.villa/paste/atheist.tgz

Do I need to put the whole copyright notice to all these little example files? Almost all of them have less than 5 or 6 lines.

I changed the doc license from GPL to FDL.

Sphinx[1] is a program to generate PDF, HTML and other format versions of the documentation (using reStructuredText). This program is used by the official Python documentation[2] and many others.

Cheers.

You need to place a file called COPYING in the root level of the folder so it is visible.

Our standards say to place a copyright and license notice in any file that is non-trivial. To deduce this we say any file that 10 lines or longer. I don't understand how those files are not copyrightable. If people are going to create their own test cases, why are they not allowed to know what the copying permissions are on those files?

The GNU GPL is not compatible with the FDL, and because of the site requirements, it is not fit to use for documentation.

Here is a list of FDL compatible licenses:

http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/license-list.html#FreeDocumentationLicenses

What programs do you use to compile the documentation?

What is Sphinx?

The only copyrighted file is atheist.py (that have copyright notice). The other files are only samples and tests.

The documentation has the same license. (GPLv3+)

I put COPYING file and notice in the doc/index.rst

Is it all right now?

In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GNU GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long.

In addition, if you haven't already, please include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL, available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

If some of your files cannot carry such notices (e.g. binary files), then you can add a README file in the same directory containing the copyright and license notices. Check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for further information.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.  To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

We only host documentation published under licenses compatible with the FDL, which allows developers to combine files from any project without fear of a licensing problem.

You can get a list of various licenses and comments about them at
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/license-list.html#FreeDocumentationLicenses

I was curious to know how do you build the documentation.
