Sorry, setting it back then.

The project is GNU software for a long time already and is already hosted on ftp.gnu.org at ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/jel

Yes, its been a long time and some copyright notices had bitrotted. Also there were major changes in JEL and I have forgotten to add legal notices to some of the newer files. It also seems that GNU itself became more pedantic in paying attention to these details.

Nevertheless, JEL had been a GNU project for quite some time. This is not a mistake, please switch is back to GNU.

I see that you selected "official GNU software" and assume this was a mistake. We (Savannah) do not decide about which projects are official GNU. Instead, these projects are evaluated in another, more stringent, process.
http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html

Therefore I switch it to non-GNU.

Expressions Library"

Projects hosted on savannah must run on at least one free
implementation, not is required to run on all implementations. It is
enought if it works fine on GCJ but not on GIJ.

I think than the hosting requirement are meet but I can't approve the
project. An administrator will do a final review and approve the
project if all is ok.

BTW, IMO is worse to break the almost whole-world convection about
tarballs than your own one. Of course that was only an advice for the
confort of your users but is not required.

Regards

I've changed the wording of that paragraph into "Commercial support is available. To find out more contact me (metlov@fti.dn.ua) directly." To make it more obviously qualify for the exception, stated in hosting requirements.

JEL runs with gij and gcj (version 4.2.4-1ubuntu3) except for three failing tests in the testsuite, all of them boiling down to appending a character to java.lang.String. This is an obvious flaw in gij, which may be already fixed.

I've added the licensing notice to each page of javadoc.

Making a subdirectory in a tarball would break convention, used by previous versions. I don't want to do it.

The updated snapshot is at:

December 5th 2009 in GNU Savannah item 9951: "Submission of Java

There is one concerning paragraph in README: "There are options,
available, for less restrictive licensing. To find out more contact me
(metlov@fti.dn.ua) directly." this appears like that you are
advertising the selling of more permisive licences and that would
violate the hosting requirements: "In general, you may not advertise
anything commercial on a site hosted here." so please remove that
paragraph.

You must determine whether your project can run on a Free Software
Java suite (see https://savannah.gnu.org/maintenance/JavaIssues and
http://www.gnu.org/software/java/ for more information).

I suppose than as your project is GNU software it runs on a free Java
suite but we need to confirm anyway.

Please provide us with more information about this point.

Currently the documentation have not licencing information, only "all
right reserved", that turns it in a propietary documentation. We do
not host propietary material. If you want to release it under a free
licence (Like the GNU FDL) then put a notice like this next to the
Copyright notice: "This file is under the GNU FDL 3 or any later
version, see file doc/manual.html for details".

Also, please if possible put the files inside a directory in the
tarball. Is not mandatory but is a de facto standard and makes life
easy to users. If files are in root of tarball one must create an
directory, move the tarball and uncompress it instead of only unpack
the tarball directly.

Regards.

It's not really a delay... but anyway. :-)

I have copied the license header verbatim now in all source files and have added the GNU Free Documentation License to cover the documentation (xml and html-formatted manual and non-trivial text files).

Hey, don't blame for the delay in evaluation, I become staff member in
about 6 months after you submited the project...

The licence header is incomplete, read carefully the "howto" section
of the GPL: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.html#howto. The HTML
javadoc, XML files and plain text documentation still lack the licence
notices.

Please fix this issues and upload (Or point to) a updated tarball,
when the hosting requirement are met an adminsitrator will approve the
project.

Patience, young padawan ! I've been waiting for your answer for almost half a year. ;-)

I have updated all the copyring notices in source and html files. You can check an updated distribution at

http://fti.dn.ua/~metlov/jel-2.0.2.tar.gz

Please note this is not an official 2.0.2 release of JEL, but just an intermediate snapshot. I plan to fix more real things for the new release.

Hi, I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your
project. You will still be able to register it again once you have the
time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah? If not, please
tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Ok, then I will continue evaluating the project you submitted for
approval in Savannah. There are still some issues than you should fix
before approval:

All your files (Including Java code, plain text, HTML and XML) should
include the appropiate Copyright and licence notice. In each directory
that contain files (Or another files that can't carry the copy
permissions inside) you should enumerate the images, it licence and it
copyright holder in a plain text file called README.

Currently you added the license notices, but did not add appropriate
copyright notices. Please check
http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for
more information, and update your files.

Also, please if possible put the files inside a directory in the
tarball. Is not mandatory but is a de facto standard and makes life
easy to users. If files are in root of tarball one must create an
directory, move the tarball and uncompress it instead of only unpack

Yes, I understood that my submission came in an unfortunate time right before Savannah server collapse.

Anyway, let's continue moving JEL to Savannah. It is logical to have it there.

Thank you for your reply !

Apologize the delay. If you are still willing to host your project at
GNU Savannah please confirm it so we continue with the registration
processes. If we do not get confirmation of you within 2 week we will
assume than you no longer plain to host the project on Savannah but in
that case please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain
time.

Thanks in advance by your understanding.

Typical examples include : plotting user-defined functions, fitting the data by the arbitrary user-defined functions, calculation of integrals and solving differential equations involving the user-defined functions... and many many more.... The key term above is the "evaluation of the user-defined functions", which is exactly what JEL is supposed to do for You.

Other Software Required:
