Hello,

I think it's more straightforward if you add your own copyright to it as long as you work on this Non-GNU project as the maintainer.

Once this project will get accepted into GNU, you can remove your copyright line.

I am sure that they will ask you to upgrade to GPLv3+, so you can do that right now anyway :)

So the remaining question is whether you really had intended to ask  for a separate project account for espresso. With your copyright added, all criteria are met, so you would be entitled to it as far as we are concerned.

But on the other hand, wouldn't it make more sense to ask the Emacs developers to grant you access to their SVN directly?

I meant that as a matter of convenience, considering that:

1) the copyright holder of the original is the FSF,
2) I'd like to one day submit this code for inclusion in GNU Emacs,
and
3) I've already assigned work to the FSF for Emacs, so that paperwork is done

it would be easier for the FSF to continue to be the copyright holder for my modifications as well. When I submitted the project, I hadn't noticed the FSF copyright assignment.

If my idea turns out to not be the easier route, then I'll make the requested changes and re-submit, of course.

So, is espresso in the process of being included into the GNU Emacs project? Please explain a bit more, I am not sure what "have papers for Emacs" means.

Usually, assigning copyright to another party needs agreement on both sides. I know the FSF accepts this for GNU projects, but this project was registered as Non-GNU.

Actually, it'd be just as good to assign copyright to the FSF. I'd like to get the mode into Emacs eventually anyway. I already have papers for Emacs - are they sufficient?

Hello,

as far as I understand it, the copyright for the original was assigned to the FSF. But now that you are improving it, you should claim copyright for it, too.

Therefore, please add a copyright line with your name to the file.

We also recommend to upgrade the project to GPLv3+, but this is not mandatory.

The new tarball can then be attached below.
