I'm not trilled by this - just because another project decides to use 'open' doesn't mean we have to follow suit.

David -- I approved the project as openpgp-sharp.  In this case, since the independent protocol is (unfortunately) named "open"pgp, following that for your project name seems ok.

Sebastian, thanks for the review.

I've approved the project and the cron jobs should complete the
setup within another couple of hours.

Happy hacking,

Ok, as there are no other issues, I do the review now and recommend it for approval. I ask the administrator approving this project to give his/her opinion about the name subject.

Considering your answer, it may be alright to keep "gnupg-sharp", because it will, as you said, be understood as a custom for bindings and not mistaken for being itself part of GNU.

Otherwise, please use the fallback name (GPG-Sharp, ...).

Good luck with your project.

Quoting the mail from Sebastian, since he replied privately, and seems like there's no way to send mails to this "issue tracker" :)

ACK.

(the suggested name was "OpenPGPSharp", since "OpenPGP" is the official standard's name (also used in the "OpenPGP Alliance").

Usually, CLI bindings to external "things" (be them libraries, programs, $anything) are named $thing-sharp.

However, I agree with using GPG-Sharp for my project (in different forms probably: GPGSharp, GPG#, gpg-sharp, depending on the context and use).

And, lol, "sharp" is not an adjective here, it's just a common "naming style" of CLI libraries ;) (-- coming from the main language name, "C#" -- c-sharp.) -- so "sharply guarded privacy" sounds funny, really ;)

Kindly,
David

Hello,

is it possible to rename this project?
On Savannah, there are GNU and Non-GNU projects hosted and this would be a Non-GNU project.

#Do not use "GNU" in your project name unless it has been
#officially dubbed a GNU package.
#See http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html for information about
#that process; it does not happen through savannah.

Registration Administration

While this item will be useful to track the registration process, approving or discarding the registration must be done using the specific Group Administration page, accessible only to site administrators, effectively logged as site administrators (superuser):

Registration Details

  • Name: GnuPG Sharp
  • System Name:  gnupg-sharp
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v3 or later

Description:

GnuPG Sharp is a CLI library for accessing gpg functions from within CLI projects. CLI software is run by CLRs (.Net, Mono, DotGNU Portable.NET), and thus is very cross-platform.

The project is aimed at the Mono platform, but it will eventually be ported to DotGNU Portable.NET

The software has been written in C#, using Monodevelop on a Debian GNU/Linux system.

Other Software Required:

gnupg - GPLv3+ - <http://www.gnupg.org/>
mono - various FS licenses - <http://www.mono-project.com/License>

Other dependencies might be needed in future, but they will always be free software.

Other Comments:

The tarball is just a snapshot of what I'm having on SVN, the Makefile has just been done now :), for you to test the build process and see the resulting library + docs (and, it has no install target yet).

Also, it has very limited functionalities by now, but I count on expanding it as soon as I find a reliable host for it :)

Kindly,
David Paleino
