Thank you for your continued response and support of this package.

Based on the recommendations made by you, I've made the following changes in the documentation.

1. A notice was made more clear so as to be visible for the user. This notice is in the new tarball, available at http://savannah.gnu.org/submissions_uploads/bibledit-3.1.17.tar.gz. It is easier to look at it by going to http://bibledit.org, then click on "Other" in the topbar, then click on "About" in the left sidebar. Then the Copyright and License become visible.

2. In the "About" document I made another change. Till yesterday it only stated the GPL as the license for both program and document. But it now says that the document is released under both the GPL and GFDL.

3. The GFDL has been included as a section of the document as a .html page, visible for the user, and it also is included as a text document as file doc/GFDL.

I hope that these changes satisfy the requirements, and am looking forward to making any other changes so as to qualify for being hosted on savavnnah.nongnu.org.

Thanks,

Teus.

This is good so far, but two things need to be "user visible":
- a introduction notice stating the license of the whole document
- the GFDL as a section of the document
The user needs to be able to read those without looking at the source code of the documentation.
Per-file notices can be "hidden" as you did.

Regards.

Thank you for considering bibledit for hosting on savannah.nongnu.org.

(Once this has been granted, I need to look into how making bibledit GNU software, but that is something for later).

I have done my best to implement all the points that you refer to. Changes in the new tarball are summarized below:

- The address of the FSF has been updated in all the source files.

- The project documentation has been released under the GFDL (as well as the GPL v3). Copyright notices were included in each html file straight under the <title>... line. It has been added in html-comment so it is not visible normally when the html is being viewed in the browser. However, if one edits these files, the he would see the comment stating the license.

- In Bibledit's GUI, in the About box, the copyright and license has been made visible.

The new tarball is at:

http://savannah.gnu.org/submissions_uploads/bibledit-3.1.16.tar.gz

Regards,

Teus Benschop

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

The address of the FSF has changed, and is now:

51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA  02110-1301  USA

Please update your license notices.

Please update the copy of the license (usually, the 'COPYING' file) in your package as well.

You can find some background and a possible migration script at https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=3766

(alternatively the GNU GPLv3 standard notices include different wording that do not mention the FSF snail mail address - see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html#howto)

In order to release your project documentation properly and unambiguously under the GFDL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements after the title page of each work.

In addition, please add a copy of the FDL (available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html in various formats) as a section of your works.

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html#SEC4

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html also covers additional points, including a smaller notice that you can use in auxiliary files.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.  Upon review, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the tracker's web interface by following the link below. Do not reply directly; the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we will not receive such replies.

Regards.

The tarball is uploaded to your temporal upload space. Here's the location:

Description:

Bibledit is a software program designed to aid the Bible translator in doing his work. It imports flat-text data files in USFM format (http://ubs-icap.org/usfm), and allows the translator to change these files, to add new files, to delete them, and so on. Bibledit aims to provide everything that a translator needs to do his work in a streamlined fashion. It is an editor that has search and replace functionality, print, and so on. It is the first Bible translation editor in the world that is released under the GPL v 3.

It uses git for content management and collaboration with other translators around the world.

It has a small memory footprint, allowing it to run on for example OLPC's XO machine, or the Asus Eee PC. It of course runs on any flavour of Linux, and it runs on Macintosh too. A port to Windows is being undertaken right now.

If the proprietary xsl-fo formatter XEP (www.renderx.com) has been installed on Linux, Bibledit will recognize it and work together with it. It however does not demand this formatter to be there. Without the formatter being there, some functionality is not there. One of the feature requests for Bibledit is that a free formatter be written to replace the proprietary one.

Bibledit is now hosted on sourceforge at bibledit.sourceforge.net. If ever a Savannah account will be granted, then I plan to move project development entirely to savannah, leaving on sourceforge only a link to the savannah bibledit webpage. The reason for switching from sourceforge to savannah is that sf.net has a lot of adverts on the site, and it slow, but a more important reason is that sf.net does not provide the git repository needed for software development, and savannah.nongnu.org does.

Bibledit is completely written in C++. Yes, there is a bit of C here and there, but that can be said to be a subset of C++ in this case. So the bulk of code is in C++.

It uses Gtk2+ for the graphical toolkits, and the Glib library for miscellaneous functions. It uses libxml2 for reading and writing xml based files, such as configuration files, and so on, and for writing html files.

It uses libsqlite3 for database access, e.g. the translator's notes go in a sqlite3 database, and the stylesheets too.

It uses Mozilla's libxul for displaying help and resources for the translator.

It uses fontconfig for managing the various fonts on the system, and to see which of these are fit for printing.

Normally the package is installed on a Linux system through the ./configure && make && sudo make install routine, using the autoconf tools to get it all done. On Windows it will use MinGW, and on Macintosh it uses the macports.org project's collection of free software.

Well, I don't know right now of anything else, please visit bibledit.sourceforge.net for online help of the program.
