I'll make a try to get in contact with K&R. About the book with the solutions. Is it published under GFDL or any other free documentation license? Cause if this is the case, I prefer to do something that will be more useful to the free software community.

Thank you for the tips. I will inform you when I'll get a response from the authors (at least hope to get one!).

Regards,
Athanasios.

Hi Athanasios Kasampalis,

I have no idea what's the license of that book. I think that the
solutions of the K&R are pretty useful for people that want to learn
C, but isn't much people now =(.

I'll close the project so we can start a new track when you get more
information about the copyright and license for the book. I prefer to
do this because we want to keep the project submission list as short
as possible.

You will be able to re-submit your project with the same name later.

Regards,

Jonathan Gonzalez V. <zeus>

Hi Athanasios Kasampalis,

I've reviewed your tarball and there's no problem with it, but looks
like we have an issue that I didn't saw when I sent you my first
e-mail.

You are creating the solution for the questions to a license book, so
if there's any license problem the copyright holder it will be a pain
to fix, can you contact the people of "The C Programming Language" and
ask them if there's any problem with create the solution for these
questions?

On the other hand, you aren't quoting any text from the book so you
may not have that kind of problem so keep avoiding the book quoting.

I've tried to contact Dennis Ritchie without any success, you may try
to contact both authors. There's already a book with the solutions to
this book(http://worldcat.org/oclc/44175298), please take a look to
it.

My apologize for send this email so late, but I was waiting for an
answer which didn't arrive.

Regards,

Jonathan Gonzalez V. <zeus>

Hello Jonathan.

I've changed the file's license to GPLv2. Thank you for the notice. I uploaded the updated tarball through this interface, is that OK?

Regards,
Athanasios.

Hi Athanasios Kasampalis,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

There's only one issue with your tarball, all the code is under the
GPLv2 but the file "1-13b.c" is under the GPLv3 according the license
notice inside. Can you please fix this? if you are going to use GPLv3
for all your files fix the license notice and the COPYING file inside
otherwise please put eh license notice of the GPLv2 inside of
"1-13b.c" file.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide
us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project or use this
tracker to upload it.  Upon review, we will reconsider your project for
inclusion in Savannah.

To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the
tracker's web interface by following the link below. Do not reply
directly; the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we
will not receive such replies.

Regards.

Registration Details

  • Name: ANSI C in practice
  • System Name:  acip
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

I couldn't found anywhere a free implementation of the K&R's classic "The C programming language" book exercises. Therefore I decided to implement them by my own. The goal is not to write the "best" solutions, meaning that there are surely greater solutions out there, but to write educational free software solutions, which comply (as much as possible) to the GNU Coding Standards and are well-documented.
