Hello,
I am sorry for this strange post.
I was trying to suggest an answer to your request.

In order to remove the old requests from pending queue.

Meanwhile,

I suggest you to register your 2 projects Cinay OS
& Gentoo Linux Portage Overlay, as separated project.

Regards,

Jean-Michel

As Beuc told me I will suggest an answer for this group.

I explain first why I write this answer, then displayed it.

I add the :

  • sv-problem-distro :

because Cinay is an OS and I start the checkout at the beginning (of writting this) and still not finish (I need to check my free space btw)

  • sv-problem-sfnet :

because I read on your website that : "All development happens in the source code versioned using the Subversion server hosted by SourceForge.NET" (http://arcong.ath.cx/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=31)
(As add in answer)
- sv-problem-gpl-two-only & sv-problem-gpl-info :
because most of source code file don't include "or later" clause (But in fact many source code file haven't any licence)
sv-closing-reply:
to close :D

I didn't add (but like) :
sv-confusion-commercial-and-proprietary due to this : "While you might expect an operating system with these features to sell for a high price, CinayOS is available free of charge" in Registration details.

Answer here :

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah. While doing so I have noticed a few problems which are described below.

As mentioned in the registration pages, we do not host complete distros, distros isos, packages repositories, etc, for space and bandwidth reasons. We may just offer support for organisational purpose and dedicated software (such as iso creation scripts).
How do you plan to use the Savannah services?

If you plan to host such software:

Please include a (perhaps temporary) URL pointing to the source code. Alternatively, you can forward the code to me by email or attach it to this tracker.

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early. For example, to release your program properly under the GNU GPL you must include a copyright notice and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every  copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long.  This is explained in http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html. Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

Note that sending code to our repositories is a release, since the code will then be publicly available through anonymous access.

I read on your website that : "All development happens in the source code versioned using the Subversion server hosted by SourceForge.NET" (http://arcong.ath.cx/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=31)

Savannah is a central point for development, distribution and maintenance of GNU Software.

There is a companion site savannah.nongnu.org where we also host Free Software projects that are not part of the GNU Project, but run on free platforms.

However, we do not allow to host your project on Savannah and SourceForge at the same time, if Savannah is just a project mirror. Your project development should happen primarily on Savannah.

How do you plan to use your Savannah account?

Licensing under the "GNU GPL v2 only" is problematic.  Would you agree to license your project under the "GNU GPL v2 or later"?

The reason for this is that when we publish the next version of the GPL, it will be important for all GPL-covered programs to advance to that new version. If you don't put this in the files now, the only way to port your program to the next version of the GPL would be to ask each and every copyright holder, and that may be very difficult.

We can explain the issue in more detail if you wish. If you have concerns about "GNU GPL v2 or later", we'd be happy to address them too.

In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GNU GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long.In addition, if you haven't already, please include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL, available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

If some of your files cannot carry such notices (e.g. binary files), then you can add a README file in the same directory containing the copyright and license notices. Check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for further information.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.  To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.  Upon review, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.
To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the tracker's web interface following the link below. Do not reply directly, the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we will not receive such replies.
Regards.

Description:

Arcon Group! is an assocation of individuals who have made common cause to create some Free Software for everyone, which members are from all over the world. We like to promote a community spirit amongst those who contribute to and use our software. Years of practise and gained experience let us introduce you as good as it is possible applications. Ambitious members of our crew will help you with a pleasure, to solve any kind of problem. We want to introduce our offer and give you opportunity to get familiar with it.

We think that world of computers is not going exactly in right direction. Our mission is to promote reliable, safe, fast and generally well designed and implemented software. It will help people to avoid crashes, data loss, viruses, trojans, and other effects of security vulnerabilities. We would like to make people trust software they are using. We are going also to convince programmers to optimize their code, use proper algorithms, design patterns, error handling and obey standards.

Our point of view and other concepts highly relay on Free Software and Open Source Software. It gives people possibility to study the code, find security holes, and generally trust it. Since we use a lot of this kind of utilities we generally promote and support this community.

    * We want to help both - advanced users and those who aren't computer experts.
    * Our goal is to solve each, even hardest reported problem.
    * We support Free Software products (mostly related with Linux / Unix-like systems).
    * We are creating free software and helping in development of existing projects. Everything what we did is available for free.
    * High quality of our products is most important thing for us, we always do everything with this idea in mind.
    * We support all our products on our WebSite, Discussion Board or via IRC Chat.

Actually we have 2 projects:
1) Cinay OS
2) Gentoo Linux Portage Overlay

========== Cinay OS ==========

Cinay is an operating system and environment originally based on Linux. It branched in 2007 in order to develop a radically different approach to concurrency, SMP, and most other kernel subsystems.

CinayOS belongs to the same class of operating system as Linux, BSD and is based on the same UNIX ideals and APIs. It main goal is to provide a desktop operating system that's fast, stable and easy to use. We want to build an operating system that meets most requirements desktop users have, like easy installation of software or sharing an internet connection.

What is it?

CinayOS is going to be a multi-year project. It will take a lot of groundwork to even approach the goals we outline here. By checking our various goal links, you can bring up position papers on various aspects of kernel and system design which the project hopes to accomplish.

First and foremost among all of our goals is a desire to be able to implement them in small bite-sized chunks, while at the same time maintaining good stability for the system as a whole. While the goals are not listed in any particular order, there is a natural order to things which should allow us to advance piecemeal without compromising the stability of the system as a whole.

Caching Infrastructure Overview

Our goal is to create a flexible dual-purpose caching infrastructure which mimics the well known compressed caching model over a broad range of configurations. It is the introduction of a new level into the virtual memory hierarchy. Specifically, RAM is used to store both an uncompressed cache of pages in their 'natural' encoding, and a compressed cache of pages in some compressed format. By using RAM to store some number of compressed pages, the effective size of RAM is increased, and so the number of page faults that must be serviced by very slow hard disks is decreased. Our aim is to improve system performance.

Available Software

With its graphical package manager and Self-Installing software packages, it makes loading programs a snap! It offers a simple way to install, upgrade and uninstall software using CPM (Cinay Package Management). List of CPM features:

    * Completely graphical extraction & installation process.
    * Corruption detection - Ensures that a user's downloaded CPM is intact.
    * Program Error Detection - If a CPM installed binary fails and silently outputs a stderr / stdout message, this is captured and displayed in a GUI for troubleshooting.
    * Easy Removal - CPM's can be removed through the "Remove Programs" system utility.
    * Icon Management - Allows developers to set icons for both the desktop & Menu.

64bit

CinayOS ups the power of 64-bit computing! Build and run a new generation of 64-bit applications that address massive amounts of memory. It takes 64-bit computing to the next level, while maintaining full performance and compatibility for any existing 32-bit applications.

Enhanced 64-bit Support

Cinay delivers 64-bit power in one, universal OS. Now alls application frameworks, as well as graphics, scripting, and the rest of the system are 64-bit. It delivers 64-bit power to both Intel- and AMD-based PCs, so you don’t have to install separate applications for different machines. There’s only one version of CinayOS, so you don’t need to maintain separate operating systems for different uses.

Stability and Performance

Cinay is based on a kernel modelled around Linux, which is one of the most reliable and robust operating systems. The development is highly focused on performance. The system manages resources efficiently and reacts quickly even when many processes are running simultaneously. Introduced optimalisations make it working on every CPU with at least SSE2. Completely rewritten libraries introduce ability to handle 128-bit computations in a single clock cycle and to use known CPU instructions-set like SSE, SSE2, MMX(+) (and SSE3, SSSE3, 3DNow(+) if they are available).

Hardware requirements and support

Cinay OS can run on any AMD64- or EM64T-based computer equipped with at least 512MB RAM and modern graphics card. As it's in pre-alpha and planning state, supported hardware components list is not available.

Core Animations

Welcome to the next level in computer animation. Creating dynamic scenes can get confusing without a systematic approach. OpenGL Accelerated desktop that seeks to provide a free, open source desktop experience to the community. With CinayOS the rather esoteric concept of the computer desktop is brought down to a more human level, allowing for a more native and intuitive understanding of your workspace. But it's not only a desktop! Using Core Animations, developers can create snazzy animations in their programs! It dynamically renders layers together, complete with transparency effects and image filter and effects. When content changes, updates it automatically.

Cinay is free

While you might expect an operating system with these features to sell for a high price, CinayOS is available free of charge and comes with full source code.

Whole Cinay features list can be find here: http://arcong.ath.cx/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=42

Whitepaper: http://arcong.ath.cx/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=32

========== Gentoo Linux Portage Overlay ==========

A Portage Overlay is a way of having a second set of ebuilds for your machine; this is generally used to Install 3rd party ebuilds and is controlled in your make.conf file. This overlay includes most popular software ebuilds, including system libraries. Please note that there's no list of aleady included ebuilds!

========== Sources ==========

Actually only Cougar! and support Gentoo Linux. Both of them (Cougar! sources and portage overlay) can be found here: http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/arcon/trunk/projects/cinay/

Other Software Required:

Linux Kernel
ucLibC
ZSH

Other Comments:

1) Caugar! is based on Linux Kernel
2) Cinay C library will be based on ucLibC
3) ZSH will be Cinay default shell
