Patrick,
first of all sorry to be so late. I was looking for the original author of the code where I derived ifconfig.py but was unable to find him so I found another way working with a friend of mine at his project that is written in C.

I substituted ifconfig.py with iflist.py that now use ioctl. The new file iflist.c is the C source code I used as a base for iflist.py.

I added the README file as you suggested with LICENSE paragraph. The new code is at http://www.linux.it/~sc/files/pywol.tar.bz2.

Again I beg your pardon for the time you lost on my registration.

TIA
Stefano

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project. You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah? If not, please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards

Hi stephano,

Unfortunaltly, I can't see any chage in your tarball. Perhaps I got a wrong URL. I tried to get your code from http://www.linux.it/~sc/files/pywol.tar.bz2 and this is the same code than the last time. Could you point me a new upated tarball ??

Concerning your question on the README file, yes you should insert a copyright notice in it, because it is compiled python. Please see http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html at the bottom of the page.

Cheers.

Hi Patrick,
I just removed i18c.py* becouse I don't like this code, I'll rework the internationalization of my code ASAP. I cannot understand the problem with ifconfig.pyc? This is a porting of a C program nothing more. I included the GPL in the COPYING file, the README is empty as this is the place where I'll write installation instruction and so on, should I include a copyright notice even in the README?

Please help me

Cheers
Stefano

Hi Stefano,

First, thanks for your updated tarball.

Some of your files cannot caary such notice (eg:i18n.pyc and ifconfig.pyc) It would be perfect if you add a README file (that's done but it is empty) in the same directory containing the copyright and license notices. Check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for further information. (bottom of the page)

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.  To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

Cheers

The licence was missing from ifconfig.py just by mistake.

Is substituted the bzip2 file with the corrected sources.

Stefano

Hi,

Please, in order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GNU GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long. (eg: ifconfig.py)

If some of your files cannot carry such notices (e.g. binary files), then you can add a README file in the same directory containing the copyright and license notices. Check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for further information.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.  To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Please include a (perhaps temporary) URL pointing to the source code. Alternatively, you can upload your code to the Savannah's tracker (the tarball size mustn't exceed 512kB).

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GNU GPL you must include a copyright notice and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every  copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long.  This is explained in http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.  Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

Note that sending code to our repositories is a release, since the code will then be publicly available through anonymous access.

Cheers
