Hi.

If I have contact with the original author of this system, there will be no problem. But, author (Lonesome), didn't appear in net from 2003. I don't know what's with he. Maybe, he unfortunately died. i dont know.

But, 1) there is another author, i may contact him. He knows about Lonesome not bigger than me; 2) you don't true in your words 'original source-code does not contain ANY copyright holder information' - in folder ./hal/ia32 there are copyrights in all files.

Hi Peter,

I'm afraid I have bad news for you. After discussing your submission and its problems with other Savannah hackers we have come to the following decision:

As the project is legally unsound from a copyright holders point of view I'm afraid we cannot accept it at the moment. If you happen to get these things sorted please re-submit your project for evaluation.

To get into details, the exact problem is that the original source-code does not contain ANY copyright holder information and that is problematic. It is basically not possible to add that information without being the original copyright holder.

You might want to contact the original author(s) of the project and ask them to change these things.

Again, I am really sorry, but we cannot accept the project due to these legal problems.

Regards,

Stephan

There was a problem with copyright notices.
I wrote that it was a dead project, that also distributed under GNU GPL license, but there wal almost none copyright notices on his files. Then, i recovered that project, so, i changed 90% of files. I simply made one notice with
© Lonesome, OSDev Group & Peter Zotov
and copied it.
Is it wrong?

In that files where was original notices I didn't changed them.

Hi Peter,

I just checked the file you just attached. There is still this particular problem with the copyright holder. I doubt 'Lonesome' and 'OSDev group' are legal entities. However, if you are not the original copyright holder you should not change the copyright notice at all. I first suspected you were that person.

Another thing I've noticed now is that both the COPYING file and the license notices still contain the old FSF address.

However, the address of the FSF has changed, and is now:

51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301 USA

Please update your license notices.

Please update the copy of the license (usually, the 'COPYING' file) in your package as well.

Updated versions of the GPL, LGPL and GFDL can also be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt

You can find some background and a possible migration script at https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=3766

As there is this problem with the copyright holders I will check with the other Savannah hackers on how to proceed with your submission, which could take some time.

Regards,

Stephan

Hi Peter,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah. While doing so I have noticed a few problems which are described below.

First of all, in order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GNU GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long.

In addition, if you haven't already, please include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL, available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

If some of your files cannot carry such notices (e.g. binary files), then you can add a README file in the same directory containing the copyright and license notices. Check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for further information.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed. To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

Secondly, is the copyright holder refered to in the copyright notices, a legal entity that can be assigned copyright? If not, you need to add the author(s)' name(s) instead.

Check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for more information, and update your files.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project. Upon review, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the tracker's web interface following the link below. Do not reply directly, the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we will not receive such replies.

Regards,

Stephan

I made a big number of changes, and, when you even assign this task to somewhom, I will post a new, changed source code

REGISTRATION DETAILS

Full Name:
----------
 Tyros/Neutronix operating system

System Group Name:
-----------------
 tyros

Type:
-----
 non-GNU software & documentation

License:
--------
GNU General Public License V2 or later

Description:
------------
This project is a reincarnation of dead sourceforge.net project Tyros, which is not maintained since 2003.
Tyros is an operating system, based on Neutronix kernel. Now, in fact, only kernel is present, shell ant etc are almost not developed now.
Neutronix is working on an ia32 PC, in protected mode. There are now realized all of base features: UNIX-like filesystem(will be described then), forced out multitasking, interprocess calls, internal filesystems & fat12+fat32, etc. Also it has an embeeded window-based GUI and console, that use VESA bios extension.
It also has an ATA device support, HDD&FDD drivers.
Now, it starts up from floppy, reads ramdisk to memory, initializing devices(on HDD it resolves partitions and its types, and gives access to raw data; we can then mount that raw device to filesystem - fat12 or fat32), and loads shell. Shell has only basic function, but i want to port Linux sh/bash there.
This system also has a KEX(Kernel EXtension) support(hm, it is realized not very good - kex initializes but do not deinitializes - but i will fix it) and works with ELF executables.
There are also a virtual memory manager, process and thread support.
System is now only able to start from floppy.

Other Software Required:
------------------------
There are only GCC and NASM needed.

Other Comments:
---------------
I will post sources today, some hours later. You can launch it by downloading Bochs(bochs.sf.net) and setting image.bin, that i also will attach, as an 1.44 floppy. Also, activate ATA0 bus there.
