I don't know if the part about "the dependencies include manuals (they should be free in the same sense as software" is meaningful to this context...

One thing I'm sure: Unimestre isn't a "manual" per see.

However, if the text I cited now wasn't what motived you for writing the last comment, then we are still in agreement. :)

I think our understanding may be "aligned".

I see it this way: when a package has nonfree dependencies, it can't be used in the free world; the dependencies include manuals (they should be free in the same sense as software).

Now I see what you mean: Using Eu Sou Mestre would be like "advertising"/"contributing" for use of Unimestre.

If our current understanding is "aligned", then we can close this task and call it unapproved.

It seems to me you still discuss the technical details; what I'd like to establish is the fact that Unimestre (the student information system) shall (or shall not) be a dependency of your package (Eu Sou Mestre).

If the non-free software JavaScript wouldn't exist, then that means that they would probably use simple HTML forms to do what they are doing (which is doable, but they insist on forcing non-free JS).

If they do switch to using HTML forms, then this script isn't needed anymore.

If, for some reason, they change something that as a result makes the script misbehave, the web site visitor/guest/user can exercise the essential software freedoms to control the script as he wishes, this also includes contacting or hiring someone to make adaptations.

Additionally, as far as my development/programming knowledge goes, I see HTML forms (and HTTP requests: either through these forms, through JS, or through direct URLs) as calls to APIs, although the API in this context isn't publicly documented, and the required things are taken from what would be executed (this project assumes that the user has either GNU LibreJS or NoScript enabled).

I think the technical details of how program connects to other components don't matter for the purpose of being a dependency; what matters is whether the program could be useful if those components didn't exist at all.  Am I wrong?

Sorry, I lost some email messages during problems with email provider I used.

Now, I see the messages I lost.

On the subject of depending on Unimestre: I don't see Unimestre as a dependency for this project, particularly because this project doesn't take Unimestre's JavaScript code and transforms it to source (that is: this project doesn't use the .toSource() String-to-JavaScript transformation). This means that this project doesn't take arbitrary non-free code.

Don't you think Unimestre is in fact going to be a dependency of your package?

Unimestre is a student information system that is developed by a Brazilian for-profit organization of the same name. However, the student information system in question has an interesting particularity: It also allows the student, his parents, and teachers, to access the system through a web browser.

However, together with this feature, unfortunately, the proprietors of Unimestre force the website visitor/guest/client to use non-free software through JavaScript. It turns out that most of the usage could be solved, in the server-side, by using HTML forms with hidden inputs with the appropriate values and also a visible "send" button. And also for some cases, a simple URL/link could be provided in the server-side. However, none of these where made by the proprietors of Unimestre, because they choose to use non-free JavaScript instead.

What Eu Sou Mestre does is provide ways to replace the non-free software usage with alternative ways friedly to free/libre software. Morever, Eu Sou Mestre doesn't depend on non-free software, because it doesn't use any functions/code that comes from the non-free JavaScript software provided by Unimestre, and also doesn't depend on the result of what those non-free JavaScript do.

Could you elaborate a little bit: what is Unimestre? what your program specifically does?

Description:

Allows using the Unimestre without having to depend on non-(free/libre) software.

This product aims to make the interaction with Unimestre not to depend on non-(free/libre) computer programs (software) generally forced via JavaScript by the proprietors/owners of Unimestre.

However, this product doesn't block the non-(free/libre) programs. To do so, it's recommended to use mainly the GNU LibreJS which blocks only what appears to be non-(free/libre) or the use of NoScript which blocks all software forced via JavaScript by default. If you opt to install any of these, make sure to enable them first, followed by Greasemonkey and this product.
