Hello Assaf,

bigfoot.ins is indeed autogenerated from bigfoot.dtx.  Out of laziness I pointed to the tarball (actually the zip file) of the CTAN archive (Comprehensive TeX Archive Network) which is generated by the CTAN maintainers.  bigfoot.ins will not get checked into the Git archive.  There is sort of a hen-and-egg problem for generating it since it governs the extraction of all other autogenerated files (and then puts the proper license notice in) with the docstrip utility.  I'll provide a Makefile that "hand-extracts" a differently named file not put into the Savannah distribution tarball, and that will then extract the regularly named and distributed bigfoot.ins with a proper license header.

When using the Savannah tarball, this bootstrapped file with the incompatible license notice will not be in the tarball, but it will be generated when using the distributed Makefile.  Any tarball generated by the Makefile will not include it.

I don't think this should pose a problem.

I am still in the process of consolidating the repository, reconstructing several source files where I lost some history in a head crash, by merging the last available source versions with up-to-date stripped versions distributed to a customer.  So I am not going to upload immediately.  I was not expecting approval within hours and wanted to have a place to  upload to when finished with the repo.

Thanks!

Hello David,

Thank you for submitting a new project to host on GNU Savannah.

I've approved you're project, and you should receive an automated e-mail
containing detailed information about the approval.

I have one small request:

In the archive you've uploaded, there is a file named "bigfoot.ins",
which contains the following statement:
%% Any modified versions of this file must be renamed
%% with new filenames distinct from bigfoot.ins.
Which makes it incompatible with GPL.

It is very likely a byproduct of an auto-generated file,
please modify this file before uploading the archive to GNU Savannah.

Regards,
 - Assaf

Registration Details

  • Name: bigfoot bundle for advanced footnotes in LaTeX
  • System Name:  bigfoot
  • Type: non-GNU software and documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later (May be moved to GPL v3+ at some point of time.)

Description:

The bigfoot bundle has been created to deal with challenges of critical edition typesetting in LaTeX.  It's core package bigfoot provides a large batch of functionality focused on high-quality typesetting of multiple footnote apparatus.

Additional packages include perpage (management of counters that reset per page and/or are reordered to match their appearance order), and suffix (for defining command variants indicated with special letters).

Other Software Required:

Requires TeX/LaTeX as it consists of LaTeX packages.

Other Comments:

I would need a Git repository for hosting development.  Previously, the package was hosted on the Indian Free Software site sarovar.org on CVS, but the site has been discontinued.  History is somewhat messed-up, I am currently trying to arrive at a clean Git repository locally.

After arriving there, I'd like the project repo to be available to interested parties.  There is not much ongoing development expected, but it would be good to have the public be able to access what is there.
