Hello Assaf,

I contacted Andy Theyers of pyscrobbler and he kindly licensed his work under the Apache 2.0 license.
Sonata uses a copy of his "audioscrobbler.py" file, which has been heavily modified since it has been imported. He authorized me to include the same license in Sonata, and I just pushed an updated copy in the repository.

So, as far as I am aware, I should have answered all the points you mentioned in your first message by now. Let me know if there are other issues.

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Hello Jonathan,

I've noticed the "pyscrobbler" repository on GitHub was updated with an Apache 2.0 license - is that the same file used in your project?

If so, I think it solves the last issue (#3 in previous emails), and we can continue.

Let me know,

Regards,
 - Assaf

Hello Assaf,

Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the troubles.

I'd be happy to update the project so it get approved on Savannah. I have some questions though, and I'd like to know if you could give me more information on how to proceed.

1. I was pretty sure I selected GPLv3, that's a mistake on my side. GPLv3-or-later is the right license. (I updated the files to reflect this.)

2. The other dependencies are as follow:

tagpy, MIT, http://git.tiker.net/?p=tagpy.git
dbus-python, MIT, http://cgit.freedesktop.org/dbus/dbus-python/

MPD is not really a dependency in itself, since it's the server Sonata connects to. (In case, it's GPLv2 at http://git.musicpd.org/cgit/master/mpd.git/ )

3. I updated the files to add the copyright and the license information in the header of the files.
Only one file is lacking suck info, sonata/audioscrobbler.py which have been imported several years ago. It seems the original author now hosts the file at https://github.com/offmessage/pyscrobbler/ and has a "Add license" note since about 5 years (https://github.com/offmessage/pyscrobbler/commit/f039e77d012e6f0007178651886bf70f43c5f372 ). He also knows that Sonata is using a copy of his file since at least 2 years (https://github.com/offmessage/pyscrobbler/issues/5) and hasn't formulated any comment about the license. I just contacted him to know more about the license, but I'm not sure if I'll get an answer. In the meanwhile, I let the file as it.

I hope I answered the point you mentioned above and that we can move forward to host Sonata on Savannah.

Thanks again for your effort,

 Jonathan

Hello Jonathan,

Thank you for submitting a new project to host on GNU Savannah.

To help us speed up submission evaluation (ensuring compliance with
the GNU Savannah Hosting requirements:
http://savannah.gnu.org/register/requirements.php
http://savannah.gnu.org/maintenance/HowToGetYourProjectApprovedQuickly/),

May I ask you to clarify the following:

1. You've entered the license as "GPLv2 or later", but the README file on github says "GPLv3" (without "or later").
Please specify the effective license "Sonata" is using (GPLv3-or-later is of course preferable).

2. The README file on Github lists several more dependancies beyond those you've listed in the submission form.
Please specify all the dependancies, and their respective licenses.

3. None of the source code files under "./sonata/" has any copyright statement or license information.
Please consider adding copyright information, preferably using the canonical form of:
    Copyright (C) YEAR AUTHOR EMAIL
e.g.
    Copyright (C) 2011-2014 Joanathan Ballet (email@host.com)

And a license statement, preferably the standard GPL template text, as listed here:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html

Regrads,
 - Assaf
