Hello,

Thank you for submitting a new project to GNU.

Your project has been created on GNU Savannah, and you should receive an automated e-mail containing detailed information about the approval.

Regards,
 - Assaf

After receiving an e-mail from RMS, my program is now an official GNU package.

Could you evaluate it as a GNU package?

Thank you for your response.

I believe the current version has no problems with the GNU Savannah hosting requirements. If I missed some point, please let me know.

yes, a package can be accepted as nongnu on savannah and later easily changed to gnu.  thanks for your interest.

Dear Assaf,

Thank you for your quick response.
I've added copyright statements to the files listed in your reply.

I want InklingReader to become official GNU software, but it's still under evaluation.
Could it be reviewed as a non-GNU package and later (if accepted) become an official GNU package?

Good to hear GPLv2+ is compatible with GPLv3+!

Kind regards,
Roel.

Hello Roel,

Thank you for submitting a new project for hosting on GNU Savannah.

First,
Here are few minor items that would need to changed in order to comply with
the GNU Savannah hosting requirements:
( see
  https://savannah.gnu.org/register/requirements.php
  http://savannah.gnu.org/maintenance/HowToGetYourProjectApprovedQuickly/ )

-1-
Two C source-code files are missing license and copyright information:
  src/converters/pdf.c
  src/converters/png.c

-2-
Two build-related files are missing license and copyright information. For those you can either use GPL or the GNU Permissive license ( http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/License-Notices-for-Other-Files.html )
  Makefile.am
  configure.ac

-3-
I assume you created the image files in the 'res' directory - please add copyright and license in the file (if possible, for example in the SVG file), or otherwise mention them in the README file.

Second,
You've listed your submission as "Official GNU Software" - was that intentional?
Official GNU Software goes through a different evaluation process, as explained here:
   http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html

You can certainly host a Free-Software project on GNU Savannah without it being an official GNU package (Note that Inkscape itself is Free-Software released under GPL but it is not an official GNU project).

Third,
I found one python script in your package which is licensed as GPLv2-or-later.
It is fine to combine it with code under GPLv3-or-later.

Please, let us know when these issues are amended and we could continue with the
evaluation.

Regards,
 - Assaf

Registration Details

  • Name: InklingReader
  • System Name:  inklingreader
  • Type: Official GNU software
  • License: GNU General Public License v3 or later (The software is licensed GPLv3+. The inkscape extension that comes along with the program is licensed GPLv2+.

The documentation is licensed GNU FDL v1.3+.
)

Description:

This project is an attempt to create a GNU/Linux-friendly version of the Wacom Inkling SketchManager. Instead of integrating with proprietary programs, this program aims to be compatible with free software alternatives like Inkscape.

The program can:
- Display WPI files
- Merge WPI files (command-line only)
- Export to Inkscape SVG (preserving layers), PDF, PNG and JSON
- Convert all WPI files in a directory to SVG
- Automatically use different colors when the "new layer" is pressed multiple times.
- Give control over stroke pressure.
- Export timing information in JSON.

Other Software Required:

Gtk+ and GLib (GNU LGPL): http://gtk.org
LibRSVG (GPLv2): https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/LibRsvg

Other Comments:

I wonder whether I can release the source code (GPLv3+) in the same package as the inkscape extension (GPLv2+). Is this no problem?

I didn't provide integration with proprietary software.
