Hi Mario,

I'm definitely still interested in hosting with Savannah. I registered the project with gna when I was under the impression that Savannah was no longer accepting new non-GNU project, but I would prefer to be hosted at Savannah if possible.

I believe my new tarball addresses all of your questions, but if not, let me know what you still need from me.

Thanks,
Maggie

Mario -- Maggie and I have exchanged some email on the -email is unavailable- mailing list.  Yes, it should have been in this item, but life is imperfect ...  Please check there and you'll see the url for Maggie's latest tarball.  Tx.

Hi.

I am waiting for an answer from you.

Please write a response in this tracker within 3 days, else I will
delete the submission.  You still will be able to resubmit the project
again once you have enough time to deal with the registration process.

If you are no longer planning use GNU Savannah please let us know.  We
won't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hi Maggie!

I have noticed that you are hosting your project at GNA (http://gna.org/projects/rfree/). Are you still interested with hosting in Savannah?

Hi.

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in GNU Savannah.
You can reach the rest Savannah hackers (Staff) in this list:
http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/savannah-hackers-public.

I noticed some issues with the tarball you submited:

Please note "Linux" is just a kernel of a more complex system that we
like to refer to as GNU/Linux, to emphasize the ideals of the Free
Software movement.  Would you mind changing references to Linux as an
OS to GNU/Linux? (Read_Me.txt).  For more information, see
http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.html.

> This project uses a copy of the file curves_subroutines.f, a

Have you checked the file is actually (Not just supposedly) on the
public domain?.  If so, then there is no problem [1].

Please add the licensing information to curves_subroutines.f and
Makefile, as with every other non-trivial file (10+ lines is the thumb
rule).

I noticed the project is licensed under the GNU GPL 3+.  I will change
the license field accordingly, let me know if that's not what you
intended.

Please fix these issues and provide a updated tarball.  You can either
attach it to the tracker or use an external hosting and provide a
direct download URL.

Registration Administration

While this item will be useful to track the registration process, approving or discarding the registration must be done using the specific Group Administration page, accessible only to site administrators, effectively logged as site administrators (superuser):

Registration Details

  • Name: RFree
  • System Name:  rfree
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

RFree is free software for allocating FM radio stations. It uses the FCC's database of existing stations, as well as the rules about spacing between stations, to identify locations and channels available for new stations. RFree is an expansion of the contour software written by RF engineer Al Davis for this purpose, and also draws on the FCC's own fortran code.

The primary purpose of RFree is to support new and existing community radio stations that are using the airwaves for community expression and social change. The existing software options for FM allocations are proprietary and pricey, and are therefore only available to RF engineers with substantial resources. RFree will allow experienced but less resourced engineers to provide affordable engineering to community groups.

The RFree project is free software for free radio and is open to all contributors of all skill levels. Development is being supported by the Prometheus Radio Project (http://prometheusradio.org).

Other Comments:

This project uses a copy of the file curves_subroutines.f, a collection of subroutines from the FCC, assumed to be public domain but not explicitly free software. curves_subroutines.f is included in the tarball "as is" from the FCC, and as such does not have a copyright notice or license header.
