Registration Administration

Registration Details

  • Name: Grammaticus
  • System Name:  grammaticus
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

Grammaticus will provide a set of Natural Language Processing tools for working with classical latin texts and computer-assisted language study. The Perseus project (http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/opensource) provides a GPL-incompatible (Mozilla) web application which is able to perform several NLP tasks (e.g. stemming, tagging, corpora analysis), but this web application is 1) not free software (but "open source"), 2) inconvenient to use for serious work since it is a web application, 3) not open to extension or addition into a processing pipeline. Grammaticus seeks to provide a free software alternative which can be used by itself or as a library in other applications.

I have just begun work on Grammaticus, which is being written in Common Lisp. It will be available as a LISP system (through asdf) and will also be installable as a free-standing console-based application.

Other Software Required:

Currently, the only project dependency is on the unit-test framework: cl-unit-test, which is under the MIT license

Project site:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cl-unit-test/
license:
http://cl-unit-test.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/cl-unit-test/trunk/LICENSE?revision=5&view=markup

As the project develops, no dependencies will be introduced which are not compatible with the GPL.
