It seems we have worked through the documentation licensing issues.  Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to further this process along.

I could try, but it seems an uphill battle, with not much to show for it.

It would be sad if guile-cairo were not welcome on savannah because of this minor detail.

Andy -- I am very sorry to hear about LGPLv2.1-only docs upstream.  Is there any prospect of that getting changed?

My understanding of the general principle of licensing on savannah (as originally decreed by rms, I believe) is that everything it hosts should be compatible with GNU practices.  LGPLv2.1-only (or *GPL-anything-only) doesn't fly there :(.

Hi Mario,

Thanks for your comments.  I have added Copyright information both for the original docs and for Guile-Cairo's modifications.

Guile-Cairo is indeed LGPLv3+.  However the documentation is derived from upstream docs, which are LGPlv2.1-only and MPLv1.1-only.  I tried to explain that in COPYING.docs.  I have now included copies of those licenses in the doc/ directory, and moved COPYING.docs there.

The new tarball is at http://wingolog.org/priv/guile-cairo-1.9.91.tar.gz.  (I did a lot of hacking this weekend, hence the version bump; but the inventory of files shouldn't be significantly different.)

Regards,

Andy

Hello Andy.

Glad to see the project is still alive :-).

You fixed most of the issues mentioned in
https://savannah.gnu.org/task/index.php?10963#comment1 but some are
still here.  I will approve the project once they're fixed.

I noticed you listed the license of the documentation in COPYING.docs,
however, the Copyright information (Name of Copyright holder and
years) is missing.  The "or any later" clause is missing as well; as
far as I remember Guile includes it.  Could you please check the
aforesaid file?.  "cairo/cairo-procedures.txt" also lacks this
information.

A copy of the license text should be distributed along with the files
in order to ensure the user will know his rights.  The GNU GPL and
LGPL are there, but I can't find the MPL; please include it.  There is
a copy of the GNU LGPL 3; as per the "or any later" clause, this is
fine, there is no need to include a copy of previous version.  (The
"or any later" clause is required for GNU Licenses, see [0]).

Hi Mario,

I finally got around to fixing these issues.  At the same time I upgraded to LGPLv3+.  Please see http://wingolog.org/priv/guile-cairo-1.4.1.tar.gz for the new tarball.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Mario,

Thanks for the feedback. I am still planning to use savannah. Guile-cairo is in maintenance mode currently, so it takes a few days to swap in :)

I hope to get to guile-cairo within the week.

Hi.

I noticed some problems with the tarball you submitted:

Files under "doc" lack Copyright & licensing information.  Likewise
with "cairo/cairo-procedures.txt", "env.in", "HACKING",
"configure.ac", all instances of "Makefile.am".  Please check your
files.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the
LGPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements
at the beginning of every copyrightable file, usually any file more
than 10 lines long.
In addition, if you haven't already, please include a copy of the
plain text version of the GNU LGPL, available from
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".
If some of your files cannot carry such notices (e.g. binary files),
then you can add a README file in the same directory containing the
copyright and license notices.  An example of such README file can be
found at
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/emacs.git/tree/etc/images/README, but
you can use any layout as it's clear which files are under which
licenses, and their Copyright holder.  Check
http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html for
further information.
For more information, see
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html#SEC4.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Please fix this issues and provide a updated tarball.  You can ethier
attach it to the tracker or use an external hosting and provide a
direct download URL.

Regards.

Hi Mario,

Yes it is currently hosted at gna, but I would like to switch to savannah. It used to use bzr, but using a dumb transport. I want to switch it to git and use savannah for its hosting. I will redirect the web pages and such to the new location.

Let me know if you need more info :)

Hello Andy.

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in GNU Savannah.
You can reach the rest Savannah hackers (Staff) in this list:
http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/savannah-hackers-public.

I noticed this project is already hosted at Gna!.  Do you want to
duplicate it at GNU Savannah?.
