Hi Giacomo,

I also missed your mail, sorry! The bloody spam filters, I suppose :)

Anyway, I am approving your submission. I am changing the license from GPLv2 to GPLv3, which is actually in your tarball. Have fun, and good luck with your project!

I've approved your project--welcome on board! :-)

You'll receive a mail notification with further instructions shortly.

Happy hacking!

I put the new tarball in http://cateee.net/files/gnu/

Note: I've not yet received the legal papers
Note2: It includes already most of the bug corrections

Yes, I'm still interested.
I'm very sorry: I missed the first mail.

So:
Alex: what tarball do you want?

The original tarball is on already GNU server
  ( ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/spell/ )

Alternatively I can give you my patched and updated version,
but I would like that it remain private until I'll sign the
  copyright assignments.

Anyway I would like to start the repository from the original
  tarball.

Karl: Ok, thanks for the tips.

Just after the legal paper are ok (the copyright assignments), I'll
quickly upload the first version (new GPL, headers and few bug
corrections). Later I'll publish on alpha my latest development
version, to be reviewed and checked against GNU standards.

ciao

We definitely want spell (and all GNU packages) on savannah, so I hope Giacomo will get this finished off.

The problems you pointed out are right, but Giacomo is taking over the package after a long (LONG) period of there being no work on it.  In the past, we've approved existing GNU packages that are migrating to savannah even when they are imperfect, since it's rather more convenient to fix such things after source control is available.

Giacomo, please let us know how you'd like to proceed.

BTW, regarding INSTALL and install.sh, if you get the current versions from gnulib (gnu.org/s/gnulib) they will have license headers :).  And for README, the "all-permissive GNU" license would suffice: http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/maintain.html#License-Notices-for-Other-Files

Hi,

Giacomo, I haven't heard anything back for a few weeks. Do you still plan to host GNU spell on Savannah? If not, just tell us so that we can close this task. Thanks!

Hi Giacomo,

I am reviewing your submission as a novice admin too, so please excuse me if I make any mistakes. Now, there are a couple of minor issues with the project:

  • The files INSTALL and install.sh do not contain a license header.
  • The README needs a full license header, not the abbreviated form that you include.

Could you provide an updated tarball so we can continue the review process?

Registration Details

  • Name: GNU spell
  • System Name:  spell
  • Type: Official GNU software
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

A spell checking program which prints each misspelled word on a line of its own. It is designed as a clone of the standard Unix 'spell' program, and implemented as a wrapper for 'Ispell."

Spell accepts its arguments as a list of files to read from. Within that list, the magical file name "-" causes spell to read from the standard input. In addition, when called with no file name arguments, Spell assumes that it should process standard input.

Other Software Required:

GNU aspell LGPL http://aspell.net/
or ispell BSD_AdClause http://ficus-www.cs.ucla.edu/geoff/ispell.html

+ any generic C library

Other Comments:

I'' the new GNU maintainer of the package, and I want to "transfer/create" the development here.

And BTW also a new GNU maintainer, so sorry if I do things in the wrong order.

Tarball URL:
