Hi,

The Symbian Foundation is using build tools which generate a single large makefil for the complete platform. We get a lot of information generated to record what make decides to do, but very little about when or why it decides not to do something.

Looking at the --debug=v option for small examples generates an order or magnitude more information, but it seems to me that the lines which say "Giving up on ..." are the ones which provide me with the most benefit.

This message comes from line 620 of remake.c

DBF (DB_VERBOSE, _("Giving up on target file `%s'.\n"));

Would you be willing to consider a change (mostly to debug.h) which makes DB_VERBOSE a composite value, with a new --debug letter that means "just the Giving up lines"? I'm happy to propose one if this idea seems useful to you (and there isn't some other way to get this kind of information already).
