Indeed an option to use the default dns server should be added. I set the default however not to be the local cache because I've noticed that in many systems the DNS servers do not allow DNSSEC.

One should be able to select whether to honour resolv.conf when using gnutls-cli.

Perhaps, iff the first entry is 127.0.0.1 or ::1, it should be on by default.

(Or maybe that and whether to cache by default should be compile-time options?)

The advantage of a local cache is very important when bandwidth is limited.
