I have briefly tested and found that both HTML entities and backslashes,
in and out of verbatim tag, are now displayed literally in both received
email and mailing list archive view.

Thanks.

Nutchanon and anyone else - i hope the changes to do proper html and backslash escaping are in now (thanks to sergey p). it worked for me in my test (http://savannah.gnu.org/support/?109053). please report back, yea or nay ... thanks, karl.

Karl, That sounds good. I am also 100% dedicated for the Savannah system upgrades happening now. However after that I would be available for assistance. Because something has happened with it I will mark this as "in progress".

bob, we have had a fix from sergey for quite a while. assaf updated it for savane code (sergey's was for his puszca, essentially the same code base). i just haven't had the dedicated time to install it (and be able to test it, back out if problems, etc.). and right now i am 500% overcommitted with tex live. maybe after that release is out ...

As you can tell by the lack of any responses or progress on this issue that resources to provide core code development for Savannah are in short supply. Perhaps I should say nonexistent. You are obviously interested and motivated by this problem. Is this something that you would be able to supply a PHP code fix for Savannah?

The backslash character problem was reported by other users as sr #107565.

This is not limited to HTML entities, backslashes in the post are also affected.

See this post on Savannah:
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?45887#comment2

Compared to the same post on mailing list:
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/gnash-commit/2015-09/msg00011.html

You'd see that backslashes inside verbatim tag (and a character that
followed each of them) have been disappeared from the email content.

This issue is still reproducible.

Compare mailing list view:
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/savannah-hackers/2015-08/msg00011.html

to Savanae view on comment 7 of sr #108277:
https://savannah.gnu.org/support/?108277#comment7

You'll see that common named entities like ampersand, no-breaking space,
greater-than symbol, lesser-than symbol are affected.

Less-common ones like copyright symbol, registered trademark symbol,
ordinary trademark symbol, and numeric entities (both decimal and hexadecimal)
are not affected.

Not sure that it's Savanae's fault or the mailing engine that Savanae uses.
But this surely makes discussion that involves HTML code awkward.

Note: please read this on Savannah directly, since this issue
may affect thread's E-Mail content.

Hello,
I have some problem posting to Savannah's support item page,
and this problem is somehow specific to a postings that contain
HTML character entity reference.

When I post a comment that have HTML character entity reference
in it, it results in the correct posting when viewed from Savannah.

But when I viewed the thread from E-Mail, some character entity
was decoded (instead of displayed verbatim) causing confusion,
especially if that thread was a discussion that involved HTML code.

Reproducing steps:

- Log in to GNU Savannah
 http://savannah.gnu.org/account/login.php?uri=%2F

- Visit some random Savannah support item
(in this case, sr #108277 which I originally encountered the issue)
 http://savannah.gnu.org/support/?108277

- Type this in the "Add a new Comment" textbox:

(Note: this is a test on Savanae mailing issue, please disregard)
&
>
<
'
"

- Click "Submit Changes" on top of the page.

- Check your E-Mail for the message from Savannah.

- You'd see that in the message content:
"&" will be turned to "&"
">" turned to ">"
and "<" turned to "<"
(although "'" and """ were left intact)
