Moving forward, we will shy away from Guile core. All new tools will be written in C and existing Fish tools will be rewritten in C. It is sad but true, there are very few system programmers with lisp experience.

The new UDM driver offers a cleaner interface to implement debugging probes at the driver level.

I do fish "eval" command, scheme back-trace and exception handling mechanisms to debug fish scheme part.

On the C side, much of the current code will vanish into Scheme and libfreeipmi code.

Are you looking for IPMI command trace (all input, output), We can have that at libfreeipmi level? I just enable fiid_obj_dump from within lan-cmd and kcs-cmd APIs.

Can you post sample output of your --ipmidump output. I am not able to see that option in my system.

Recently I came up a bmc-configuration problem and had difficulty debugging it.  I ended up writing tiny .c files to get current configuration values i suspected were buggy.

Currently, the ability to debug problems in fish is quite limited.  I think it would be useful to have some type of dump function in fish to help with debugging.  See bmc-watchdog's --debug or ipmipower's --ipmidump for an example of something I think could be useful.
