I have a patch that improves archive creation performance at least in certain configurations (ubuntu x64, virtualized infrastructure, SAN storage) by using posix_fadvise to signal the intent to sequentially read the whole file.

On my macbook posix_fadvise is not available so this patch silently reverts to a noop.

I can't find contribution guidelines on the website, so I'm sending the patch using this form.
