I think that the closest description of what I would like to do is to fully replace the pim branch. Or to replace the whole repository (that are already identical except for the commits under the pim branch).

I looked closely at the two repositories.  The master branches of both are in sync.  They are at the same spots.

Both repositories have pim branches.  Those diverge immediately from the current master.  The changesets are similar but they were committed to the repositories by different committers and therefore have different signatures.  Because git considers the committer a part of the history and therefore different committers means different history to git.

The pim branches appear to have the same changeset content up through "2010-08-27 15:16:33".  At that point the pim branch has additional commits from github.  Those additional commits from github cannot be fast-forwarded onto the savannah pim branch because they have different committers.

My previous comment about fast-forwarding master applies only if you want to commit one branch or another on top of master.  But your later comments lead me to believe that isn't what you want.  I suspect you want to add those later commits on top of the pim branch.  Or to replace the pim branch with the other history.  It would remove the previous committer history and replace it with the one from github.

I am surprised you haven't used network access from elsewhere that would grant you network ability.  If it were me I would drop into a coffee shop on the way home from work and do the task from there.

If you still want me to upload for you then please add me to your project team so that I have the permission to do this action.  I am rwp on Savannah.  Add me to your project team and I will be happy to upload that branch for you.

Correct, all qpimd work is under "pim" branch...

> The pim branch on github is a direct descendent of master. There is no need to do a full re-import. The additions can simply be "pushed" and they will fast-forward onto master.

If you can re-sync Savannah with Github by simply pushing the "pim" branch commit, please do, that will be awesome!

Thanks

Both Savannah and Github appear to me to be at git revision 52ecbbea36439758590f0c31a0ec147fec041d7a.  What am I not seeing?

As far as I know there is no git push over https on Savannah.  I could easily be wrong about this though.  I am basically new with regards to Savannah configuration.  The git push security model uses ssh and unix group accounts.  I will look into push over https on Savannah but no time until later.

You aren't using the "master" branch?

The pim branch on github is a direct descendent of master.  There is no need to do a full re-import.  The additions can simply be "pushed" and they will fast-forward onto master.

I am not in a position to do the push for you at this moment either.  But I can get back to the keyboard later.

Hi Bob,

No, Github repo is actually ahead of Savannah...

Commits that moved Github's repo ahead of Savannah were applied to branch "pim". I would like to re-sync Savannah according Github, but unfortunately won't be able to do it soon by myself (due to lack of outgoing git/ssh protocols). Am I right that Savannah does not allow git push over http/https...?

Can we plese re-open this ticket?

Thanks,
Everton

Hello Everton,

Hmm...  This is rather an unusual request since the project teams usually would always do their own code pushes.  However being one of the git folks here I assigned the ticket to me.  But then looking at both repositories they show as identical.  I assume that one of the other members of your project team did this push themselves already.  Therefore I will tag the ticket as done since I think it is already done and there isn't anymore more to do.

Bob

Please do a full re-import of qpimd git repository from Github to Savannah:

Source repo at github:
https://github.com/udhos/qpimd

Destination repo at Savannah:
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/qpimd.git

The reason for this request is I'm temporarily without access to outgoing git/ssh protocols, and would like to update the Savannah repository with recent changes. I could manage to do a git push over HTTP/HTTPS, but Savannah does not seem to support such an option.

Thanks,
Everton
