Thanks for clarifying it to me.  Now that I know this I won't distribute this software.  Please remove the project spdict from Savannah.

Such a license is incompatible with the GPL, and free software in general.

Distributing it via Savannah is not "personal usage".

Their legal notice says that the content is made available for personal and non-comercial usage, and that you have to ask for permission for comercial redistribution.

Then my immediate question is, what is the license of RAE?  The bottom text says:

Real Academia Española © Todos los derechos reservados

Which is a no-go for hosting on Savannah.

Hi Alfred,

That's because the HTML files include a lot of <span>s and other tags.  Along with the source code I include a script that compiles down all those files to a binary format that is suitable for the application and takes about 20M uncompressed.

Each HTML file is the result of querying the Real Academia Española website for a word, like this:

http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/SrvltGUIBusUsual?LEMA=a&origen=RAE&TIPO_BUS=3

I'm kinda curious why a dictionary takes up 11K per entry (I am assuming 90k files equals one entry per file), not even GCIDE (a English dictionary) is that big (about 60M uncompressed)... 1G should be able to encompass most popular languages in the whole world!

Hi,

I'm planning to commit to Git the full source code of spdict, but first I wanted to ask you if your system has enough capacity for this, because it includes 90000 HTML files that amount to 1 GB.
