Thanks for letting us know :)
MTU is a pain :(

Our IT people eventually figured out that we have a problem in our network. Though they still don't know the root cause, we found
a work around by reducing the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) size (from 1500 to 1476) on the workstation that I'm using for CVS commands. Sorry to have bothered the Savannah people.
Thanks and regards
Klaus

Hi,

Unfortunately I have no way to reproduce this issue (I don't have the hardware, and the OS isn't free), and we got no other report.

I suggest you ask on the official CVS users mailing lists (https://savannah.nongnu.org/mail/?group=cvs) and see if other people with the same environment already got this kind of troubles.

If there's something we need to change on the server side, please let us know.

Regards.

I probably didn't explain it well. The first anonymous CVS checkout works just fine. From then on, an update (or checkout again)
command shows no reaction for a long time. Here's an example:
[672]$ cvs -t update
  -> main: Session ID is AAzGNXJZmizsK3Vs
  -> main loop with CVSROOT=/sources/emacs
  -> open_connection_to_server (:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sv.gnu.org:/sources/emacs)
  -> Connecting to cvs.sv.gnu.org(199.232.41.69):2401.

And after approx 8 minutes I get:
cvs [update aborted]: error writing to server: Broken pipe

I had used this command for more than 2 years without any problems
and I haven't changed anything in my environment.

Hmm, I don't know.

Can you try using only
  cvs update
in your working copy?

In principle cvs does not expect to be run with "checkout" when it's an update, or by specifying a repository explicitely (-d) while already in a working copy.

I cannot reproduce the problem here, but maybe it's specific to the sunos port. In this case, you may get help from the CVS mailing list at info-cvs@nongnu.org.

For the last few feeks I have a strange problem.
When I try to update my CVS emacs version with:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sv.gnu.org:/sources/emacs \
  co emacs
After approximately 8 min I get the following error:
cvs [checkout aborted]: error writing to server: Broken pipe

When I remove my emacs directory and try the checkout command,
it works just fine. But when I now follow up with a 2nd
checkout or an update command, I get the same 'Broken pipe'
error.

OS: SunOS 5.8 Generic_117350-28 sun4u
    sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-1500 Solaris

I appreciate any help. Thank you
