I'll keep that in mind while hacking Savane.
I close the request for now.

In that case, the following information in My Account Conf:

`` [ ] Hide email address from your account information
When checked, the only way for users to get in touch with you would be to use the form available to logged-in users. It is generally a bad idea to choose this option, especially if you are a project administrator. ''

is a bit misleading, because even if it's unchecked, the user will have to log in (although she/he would see the email then and will not have to use the form, so the information is true formally ;-).

I wasn't opting for any solution like that you mentioned, I was just confused with the information cited above.

By the way, I've seen some people put their email addresses in small .png files. This could be another solution, although I don't know if these files are resistant to spammers bots.

Thanks for the answer.

The hacker would implemented this was willing to fight spammers and their e-mail retreiving bots.

I personaly think this is going a bit too far, because it's now cumbersome to contact the developer of a Savannah-hosted project.

One solution would be to show e-mails to anonymous visitors when they're not marked as 'hidden'. Another solution would be to add another option to define whether the e-mail can be show a) to anonymous visitors b) to logged-in visitors c) to everybody, at the user option (I'd go for c)).

Is that what you have in mind?

The button ,,Hide email address from your account information'' doesn't work.
When it's unchecked, the email address field in ``my profile'' is  ``-unavailable-'', which is not right.
The address is visible once I log in.

It seems the same is true for other people, i.e. their addresses are unavailable for people not logged in (I've checked a few other's profiles). I know they could hid their addresses, but it seems that then the email field says ``Send him/her a mail''.
